Triscay Revival at Magic Millions

Triscay is a legendary horse that had a distinguished career in the horse racing industry and excelled as a brood mare. She died in March 2006, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, strength and success, which has proven to be exactly what many buyers at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale were looking for. Weanlings that have come from the Triscay pedigree have been fetching prices of approximately $300 000, showing that her line is still as in demand as ever.

Grand Zulu Hopes for the Winners Circle

It was smiles and celebration all around at the 2004 Group One BMW racing event, which was held at Rosehill, when the then three-year old Grand Zulu crossed the finish line in remarkable form. For trainer, Gwenda Markwell and Grand Zulu’s owner, Hong Kong based David Choy, it was a magnificent victory and a wonderful achievement for the entire team. But it was the last time that winning celebrations were experienced in the Grand Zulu camp.

Magic Millions Weanlings

The 2008 Magic Millions National Sale started on Tuesday, the 27th of May. The Gold Coast was once again overrun by buyers and sellers of the horse racing industry and while there are many horses on offer, it has been a successful time for the weanlings. Weanlings are approximately six months old and have been recently weaned from the mares. And even though they are too young to race, many buyers invest in weanlings to resell them at the yearling sales.

Sadler’s Wells retired from Stud

May 2008, will be remembered by the horse racing community as the month when the racing industry lost two of its greatest sires. Storm Cat was retired on the heels of the announcement from Coolmore Stud, that Sadler’s Wells will be spending the rest of his life in the comfort of the stud farm, in full retirement. Both horses were retired due to their age beginning to cause a decline in fertility. Sadler’s Wells retires as a legend and a champion horse.

Seriousness of Hoof Cracks

The racing community and thousands of fans were waiting in anticipation for the prognosis of the hoof crack that was found on Big Brown’s left front hoof. The quarter crack was treated by Ian MacKinlay, a hoof specialist, and Big Brown should be back on track to take on the Belmont Stakes on 7 June 2008. The fact that the hoof crack could be repaired was a great relief to all those who are pinning their hopes on Big Brown being the next Triple Crown winner, and even though some hoof cracks are repairable, there are some that can cause serious injury and pain to horses.

More Heaven for O’Brian

Aiden O’Brian took the title of champion jockey in Ireland during the 1993-1994 horse racing season and many looked forward to watching him through his career. But O’Brian had different ideas. He applied for a trainer’s license and became one of the most respected trainers in the horse racing industry. Presently, training top horses for Coolmore Stud and being head of training at Balleydoyle Stables, Aiden O’Brian once again proved his worth as a trainer with Halfway to Heaven securing the Irish 1000 Guineas, a day after Henrythenavigator took the 2000 Guineas.

The Derby Festival in Britain

The first racing event held at Epsom Downs Racecourse was recorded in 166. Its magnificent surroundings, rolling green landscapes and peaceful location have seen Epsom Downs Racecourse remain a favorite. The Derby Festival was established in 1779 by the 12th Earl of Derby, and over the years spectator numbers have grown. This year, the Derby Festival will be held on the 6th and the 7th of June, with thousands filling the stands and close to six hundred million watching from the comfort of their homes.
