Curlin Still in Top Form

On Saturday, Curlin once again proved that he deserves his Horse of the Year title. He has not raced on United States soil for a few months now, and after a successful international campaign everyone thought that Curlin might need good rest before taking on his first race on his return. But Curlin was not deterred by facing a full field of contenders at Churchill Downs. He dug deep, found his gap and steamed ahead to the finish line.

Colonial Turf Cup Anticipation

The Jacobs Investments Grand Slam of Grass is a horse racing series for three year old horses that consists of four races and has a total purse amount of approximately $5 million. Each turf event has a generous purse, but there is an added extra to the series: any horse that wins all four the racing events, is given a $2 million bonus.

Haradasun Victorious at Royal Ascot

The Royal Ascot kicked off on Tuesday, 17 June 2008, with many surprises and thrilling racing events. The £250 000.00 Queen Anne Stakes is a Group 1 race for four year olds and over, and was one of the most anticipated races in the Royal Ascot schedule. Eleven horses entered the starting gates at half-past-two in the afternoon, but is was to be a close finish with three horses battling it out for superiority.

Summer Sun to Shine on Ellis Park

Every racecourse has been feeling under threat lately and many have been putting in long hours and hard work to ensure the success of their racing seasons. Ellis Park Racecourse has been a part of the horse racing world since 1922, when it was established under the name of Dade Park. It was almost lost in 1925, but James C. Ellis bought the racecourse and ensured its survival. In 1954, the track’s name was changed to Ellis Park Racecourse, and it has battled through hard times and loss throughout the years, but has always managed to stay afloat.

Glory at Hoosier Park

The Hoosier Cup Night takes place on 28 June 2008 at the Hoosier Park Racecourse. The total purses for the evening are estimated at over $1 million and the $100 000 Indiana Sire Stakes Final will be on the race card for this big event. In order to make it to the finals, horses and their drivers have been racing their hearts out at the qualifying legs of the Indiana Sire Stakes, with horses battling it out in their respective races. On Sunday, 15 June 2008, two races in the fourth leg saw two nail biting racing events unfold, with deserving horses walking away victorious.

Queen’s Plate Set to Thrill

The Queen’s Plate is not only a historical horse racing event in Canada, but it is also the first leg in the Canadian Triple Crown. The race is exclusively for three year old horses that have been bred in Canada and has a maximum contender field of seventeen horses. For the 2008 Queen’s Plate, which takes place on 22 June 2008, there will be fifteen horses in the starting gates and it is going to be a very interesting racing event.

New Proposal for Exercise Rider Licenses

With racecourse safety being on the forefront lately, the proposal of creating a new license classification for exercise riders, suggested by the California Horse Racing Board, has been welcomed by everyone in the horse racing industry. Trying to ensure the safety of horses and riders is vital and through the new proposal of the exercise rider license, it is hoped that the safety on the racecourse will be increased, for everyone involved.
