Hoosier Cadillac Wins at Hoosier Park

Hoosier Park came alive with horse racing action on Saturday, 5 July 2008, with thirteen racing events on the race card. Spectators filled the stands to support the various races that ranged from invitational horse racing events to claiming handicaps. The eighth race on the race card was the $23 000 Invitational Trot, which saw a great line-up of contenders filling the field. As Mark O’Mara encouraged Hoosier Cadillac to pull away from the rest of contenders, he knew that the victory was in the bag.

New Start for Kentucky Horse Racing Authority

The horse racing industry has been under intense scrutiny lately. As many have been feeling that the sport of horse racing is being threatened, Governor Steve Beshear made the decision that aggressive action needed to be taken to restore the integrity of the sport and to bring positive changes to racing as a whole. In his bid to renew the image of horse racing, he started with the reorganization of the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority, which has now been renamed to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.

The Low Down on DOD

In 1986, the term Developmental Orthopaedic Disease, or DOD, was used for the first time. The term is a general description and can be misleading as DOD not only refers to bone diseases, but also to problems that are found in developing joints and plates. Developmental Orthopaedic Disease is therefore a diagnosis for any development issues of the musculoskeletal structure. Even though there is no specific general cure or treatment that can assist in all the various forms of Developmental Orhtopaedic Disease, problems can be treated and steps can be taken to prevent most DODs.

Heatseeker Bows Out

There were many disappointed fans and spectators at Hollywood Park last weekend, as Heatseeker was scratched from the $750 000 Hollywood Gold Cup on the day before the race. He was the race favorite for the day, and everyone was sure that he would be able to win the Hollywood Gold Cup effortlessly. On hearing that the spectacular five year old had a swollen ankle, many fans consoled themselves that their hero would take time off to recuperate, and that they would see him in the next racing event. But that is not going to happen, as Heatseeker will be retiring.

Curlin Takes to Grass

At the age of four and with career earnings of over $9.3 million, Curlin has established himself has one of the top racehorses that has ever hit the horse racing industry. He has conquered and achieved greatness throughout his twelve start career, but is now moving onto new territory, namely turf. Trainer, Steve Asmussen, had already indicated that the next move in Curlin’s career would be towards the Gran Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and it seems that everything is going according to plan.
