Spell-Binding Victory for Magical Fantasy

As spectators and trainers settled in for the running of the prestigious Group 1 Del Mar Oaks, no-one paid much attention to the name Magical Fantasy which was on the contender list of the racing event. Almost no bets were placed on her, as she entered the starting gates as the 42 – 1 outsider in a nine horse field. But Magical Fantasy, with Alex Solis on board, was ready to spread a little magic around, and settled in to cause one of the biggest upsets ever seen in the Del Mar Oaks.

Genuine Risk Leaves a Legacy Behind

It is always difficult to say good-bye to a legend, especially after they have made horse racing history and left behind memories of awe and wonder. The news that the magnificent filly, Genuine Risk, had passed away, rocked the horse racing industry, as her achievements and successes on the racetrack have always been admired and treasured by all. Fans, trainers, jockeys and her owners will never forget the day that Genuine Risk took on the colts in the Kentucky Derby and found victory in her determination to win.

Ebor Festival Hot Racing Action

Longacres Mile Taken by Wasserman

The Longacres Mile Handicap was run on Sunday, 17 August 2008, at Emerald Downs Racecourse. It was day to remember for breeders and Washington racing, as the homebred six year old Wasserman worked his way past a formidable field of contenders to capture the Longacres Mile Handicap, a $300 000 Grade III horse racing event. The crowds at the racecourse on Sunday showered the winning horse and his jockey with shouts of praise and congratulations on their victory.

Kentucky Gets Tough on Steroids

On 25 August 2008 the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission will convene for its regular meeting. However, this scheduled meeting will be focusing on a very important decision, recommended by the Kentucky horse racing officials and approved by the Kentucky Equine Drug Research Council – to ban anabolic steroids completely. The penalties and suspensions involved in regard to violations of the new ban will be the strictest the horse racing industry has ever seen.

Laura Rosier Honored

The San Luis Rey Downs training facility has been home to many spectacular horses of the years. It takes great management skills and dedication to horses and the horse racing industry to ensure the health, welfare and safety of the horses and staff is met. Many trainers rent permanent stables at San Luis Rey Downs, as its great facilities and care are known throughout the horse racing industry. One of the people who assists in keeping the training centre up to standard was recently honored with the Outstanding Woman in Thoroughbred Horse Racing Award, namely Laura Rosier.

Weekend Hussler Sets Sights on Liston Stakes

The $200 000 JJ Liston Stakes will take place on Saturday, 14 August 2008, at Caulfield Racecourse. With Weekend Hussler’s trainer, Ross McDonald, looking to take the Caulfield Cup-Cox Plate-Melbourne Cup treble, he could not afford any injury to his horse. Unfortunately for some time it almost seemed as if Weekend Hussler was out of the running, leaving trainer, handlers, jockey and owners very worried. But Weekend Hussler proved that he was a fighter, and seems to be making enough progress to be a confirmed entry into the Liston Stakes.
