A total of 21 fillies were entered in the American National Stake elimination rounds, making it necessary to schedule a trio of elimination rounds to determine exactly which horses should be raced in the preliminaries. Henrythenavigator Suffers Unfortunate Defeat

Up until now Henrythenavigator has run some exciting first place finishes. But his ability to turn up the turf at top speeds does not translate so well to mud, so when he left the starting gates at the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp, he found himself struggling the whole way. In the end his turmoil left him laboring across the finish line in fifth place.

Curlin Confirmed for Jockey Club Gold Cup

After his magnificent victory at the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes, which was held at the Saratoga Racecourse on 30 August 2008, everyone was waiting anxiously to find out where Curlin was going to make his next start. The 2007 Horse of the Year has always received the support of thousands of fans in New York State and has enjoyed successes at their racecourses. For these two reasons, it has been decided that Curlin will start in the 2008 Jockey Club Gold Cup, and there is a lot riding on this anticipated performance.

The John Smith’s Ayr Gold Cup Festival is being held from the 18th to the 20th of September 2008 at the Ayr Racecourse in the United Kingdom. A massive crowd of over twenty-five thousand spectators are expected at the Ayr Racecourse for a weekend of spectacular racing, entertainment and activitie. Even though the showstopper event of the weekend is the John Smith’s Ayr Gold Cup, it is the boost in purse money that has everybody talking.

Oklahoma Hall of Fame

Oklahoma has contributed greatly to the horse racing industry, going back as far as the early 1900’s, yet few people are aware of their achievements. From famous horses being bred in Oklahoma, to legendary jockeys who started their racing careers on the racecourses of Oklahoma, there have been many proud moments. But until now, none of these spectacular successes have been honored or highlighted, and that is why the plans for the establishment of the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame, has been underway for the past year. Finally, the horse racing community of Oklahoma will be immortalized amongst the racing greats.

Tough Crowd at Emerald Downs Auction

Auctioneers faced a very tough crowd on Tuesday, 2 September 2008, at the Morris J. Alhadeff Sales Pavilion, Emerald Downs, during the annual summer yearling sale hosted by the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association. Sales and auctions across the country have been feeling the impact of the economy, and with median sales figures declining by approximately forty five percent, the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association summer yearling sale suffered the same fate. But besides for a general drop in purchases, there were a few sales that stood out and lightened the mood.
