Get Ready for the Florida Derby
The Florida Derby was inaugurated in 1952 and is a Grade 1 race, with a very attractive purse of $1 million. Hosted by Gulfstream Park Racecourse in Florida, this magnificent racing event will once again attract some of the top three-year-old horses on 29 March 2008. In past years, legendary horses such as Nashua (1955), Alydar (1978), Barbaro (2006) and last year’s winner, Scat Daddy, have added their names to the distinguished roll. This year, however, there are many surprises in store and it is guaranteed to be a very exciting race.

Top International Racing in Singapore this May
In the year 2000, the Singapore Racecourse was inaugurated in Kranji and the Singapore Airlines International Cup was held for the first time. It is the only horse racing event in Singapore that is open to international competitors and received its Group 1 status in 2002. During the first few years of this two thousand meter flat racing event, it seemed that the Asian countries would not be able to dominate the Singapore Airlines International Cup, but that all changed in 2006 and 2007, with two Japanese horses named Cosmo Bulk and Shadow Gate.

Don’t Miss the WinStar Derby on Sunday
The WinStar Derby is a relatively new racing event on the horse racing calendar, with its inaugural race being run in 2003. It is an official ungraded stakes race, which is run as a preparation meeting for the Kentucky Derby, and has become a favorite racing event for three year olds. The WinStar Derby is hosted by the Sunland Park Racetrack in New Mexico, and is sponsored by WinStar Farm. This year’s racing event is set to be another nail-biting, adrenalin pumping horse racing meet.

The Renowned Cheltenham Festival Starts Today!
In Great Britain, steeplechase racing or jump racing, as it is also known, is a popular horse racing sport. There are many steeplechase racing events held throughout the year, but one of the most popular and richest of these is the Cheltenham Festival. Each year, approximately two hundred thousand spectators make their way to the festival to enjoy four days of racing. Millions more switch on their televisions to view the action. The Prestigious Derby Italiano in Rome

The Coral Scottish Grand National
In Scotland, one of the most anticipated events of the horse racing season is the Scottish Grand National. From last year, after Coral became the new sponsor, the race will now be known as the Coral Scottish Grand National. It is a race that was started in 1867 at the Bogside Racecourse, but after the course’s closure, this magnificent racing event moved to the Ayr Racecourse in 1966. While being run at Bogside racecourse, the race was run over a distance of 6 236 meters, today it is run over a distance of 6 538 meters.
