Well Armed rocks Dubai

Since its inauguration in 1996, the Dubai World Cup has become a prestigious international horse racing event that is held at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse every year. It is a Group 1 event for thoroughbred horses four years and older and after 2004, it became one of the richest races in the world, with a purse of US$6 million. This year, the race took place on Saturday, 28 March 2009, and a magnificent six year old by the name of Well Armed, added his name to list of winners of the Dubai World Cup.

Kentucky Oaks anticipation

In the last few years, horses such as Proud Spell, Rags to Riches, Lemons Forever, Summerly, Ashado, Bird Town, Farda Amiga, Flute and Secret Status have carved their names into the history books of the Kentucky Oaks, and this year there will be another contender field filled with talented horses, trying to do the same. Anticipation surrounding the Kentucky Oaks is already starting to build, with horses being confirmed for the event and punters speculating over who has the best chance to win.

Success Brocken Surprises All

Trainer Hideaki Fujiwara knew that he had a very good horse in Success Brocken. He believed that his four year old had immense potential and that Success Brocken would become a spectacular horse racing athlete. Though Fujiwara has confidence in Success Brocken, not even he could have predicted the major upset that would unfold at the Tokyo Racecourse on Sunday, 22 February 2009, during the running of the Grade 1 February Stakes. It was a momentous event and a day that left Fujiwara, and many spectators, at a loss for words.

Chocolate Candy: A Horse Racing Treat

The magnificent three year old Chocolate Candy has most definitely been bred with the genes to run. Out of the mare Crownette (Seattle Slew), a stakes winner during her career, and with Pacific Classic Stakes winner, Candy Ride, as sire, Chocolate Candy was off to a good start. Fortunately he also possesses natural talent and the ability to become a great athlete. Over the last year he has shown improvement in every race and on Saturday, 14 February 2009, he added another victory to his career.

Triple Crown Relief

The economic slump that has been experienced during the last year has affected many industries, and the horse racing industry did not escape unscathed. Breeding operations have been hit hard and owners have been fighting to keep their stable yards running. It is therefore not surprising that there was some concern by Triple Crown Productions in regard to nominations for the upcoming Triple Crown races. A drop in nominations was expected, but organizers were pleasantly surprised when the final nominations came in.

Hats Off to Gemswick Park

Old Hat was a phenomenal race horse during her time on the track. She became a household name, and in 1964 and 1965 she was crowned the American Champion Older Female Horse. In the six years she spent as a race horse, Old Hat won thirty-five of her eighty career starts and placed eighteen times. It is for her outstanding performances and the highly regarded legacy she left behind that the Old Hat Stakes was named in her honor.

Tizfiz Shines for DeLeon

Tizfiz was bred by Diamond A Racing in Kentucky, and was sired by Tiznow, out of the Go for Gin mare, Gin Running. Up until the 4th of October 2008, she was trained by Richard Mandella, but was claimed for $50 000 at Oak Tree for new owners, Brian Kahn and the O’Neill Trust, by trainer Ralph DeLeon. DeLeon, who has won many racing events, was looking for his first graded stakes win on the 4th of January 2009, and found it in the outstanding effort made by Tizfiz and her jockey, Agapito Delgadillo.
