The World-Renowned Grand National Steeplechase

The Grand National Steeplechase is well known all over the world and attracts as many as 150,000 spectators every year. The Grand National is held at the Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool on the last day of the three-day Grand National meeting. Aintree Racecourse is located in Aintree, on Merseyside. Before the Aintree Racecourse existed, the Grand National Steeplechase was held in Maghull, a nearby town.

Citation, Thoroughbred Racing's First Millionaire

Citation is one of the most famous thoroughbred race horses of this and any other century. Although his career was somewhat short, this beautiful bay colt would make the most of it, becoming the first horse to win over one million dollars in a single season. Now, a million isn't what it used to be, but Citation's achievement was breathtaking for the era in which he raced: the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Santa Anita Park will host the 2008 Breeders' Cup

The year 1986 marked the first time the Breeders' Cup was held at the Santa Anita Park in Southern California, and once again the 2008 Breeders Cup will be held here during the silver anniversary edition at the Oak Tree Meet. The Breeders' Cup horse race has been held at Santa Anita on two other occasions - in 1993 and 2003. 2008 is therefore the fourth year that the Breeders' Cup will take place at this famous race track.
