Preakness Fever in Full Swing
The Preakness Stakes takes place at Pimlico on 17 May 2008 and already the contenders for this legendary racing event are training in anticipation of race day. Kentucky Bear is the first horse to arrive at Pimlico, but it does not mean that other contenders are resting on their laurels. Everywhere, the magnificent racehorses participating in the Preakness Stakes are being put through their paces before they travel to the second racing event in the Triple Crown.

Victory for Nataroga at 1000 Guineas
Five years ago, Pascal Bary had pinned his hopes on Six Perfections to bring home a victory for him in the 1000 Guineas in 2003. But a small pilot error led to Russian Rhythm gliding to victory and Six Perfections fighting for second place. She went on to win the Breeder’s Cup and the Prix Jacques le Marois, leaving behind all the memories of the 1000 Guineas, but Pascal Bary still craved the win.

Kentucky Derby Spectacular
After months of speculation and predictions, the big day finally arrived and over a hundred and fifty-seven thousand members of the public walked through the gates at Churchill Downs to watch the hundred and thirty-fourth running of the Kentucky Derby. Wagers of more than a $114 million were recorded and as the starting gates swung open on Saturday, 3 May 2008, the stage was set for tragedy and triumph.

Beef or Salmon Leaves Behind a Legacy
Many tears flowed from the eyes of loyal fans on Wednesday, 23 April 2008. Emotions were running extremely high as Beef or Salmon walked into the starting gates for the very last time at Punchtown. After his appearance in last month’s Irish National, it was decided that the time had come to let Beef or Salmon retire from racing and enjoy the rest of his life in the love and care of his owner’s grandson. All that trainer Michael Hourigan was hoping for on Wednesday was the safe return of one of his most prized horses.
