Melbourne Cup 2010

On 2 November 2010 the city of Melbourne grinds to a halt. It is a public holiday and more importantly, it is the running of the 2010 Melbourne Cup. Last year, more than a hundred thousand spectators attended this prestigious horse racing event, and it is expected that this year’s attendance levels will be even higher. And not only will some of the best horses in the international horse racing industry be attending the Melbourne Cup, but a very special local horse named So You Think will also be in the starting gates, making the 2010 Melbourne Cup the event of the year.

The Race That Stops a Nation

It's nearly here again, this year for the 150th time, arguably the greatest horse race in the world. Yes, the Melbourne Cup is just a few days away. There's nothing quite like it anywhere else in the world, where racing for one day totally dominates a nation's thoughts and habits. People stop work, or don’t go to work at all, but go to thousands of organised parties, and even plan holidays around the race.

A spectacular group of horses entered the starting gates at Belmont Park, and hundreds of spectators watched in awe as each horse delivered their own breathtaking performance. Friend or Foe was to be the horse of the day, and the winner of the 2010 Empire Stakes.

Harmonious Victory for Shirreffs

Fillies have been lining up in the starting gates of Keeneland Race Course, Lexington, for the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup since its inauguration in 1984. This year, on Saturday 16 October 2010, it was no different. This spectacular Grade 1 thoroughbred horse racing event is used by many trainers as a preparation event for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare event, and trainer John Shirreffs could not have been prouder standing in the winner’s circle on Saturday at Keeneland. Usually, Shirreffs has his full attention on Zenyatta, but there is another filly that is proving her worth on the racecourse.
