Tam Lin Dominates Kelso Handicap

Kelso is probably one of the most legendary horses in the horse racing industry. Winning the Horse of the Year Eclipse Award no less than five times is testament to his greatness as a racehorse, and it is for this reason that the Kelso Handicap, or Kelso Breeder’s Cup Handicap, was named in his honor. Run annually at Belmont Park Racecourse, this Grade 2 event is a preparation event for the upcoming Breeder’s Cup Mile. On Sunday, 28 September 2008, six contenders entered the starting gates to take on the $250 000 Kelso Handicap for three year old horses and over.

Raven’s Pass Victorious

Everyone knew that the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes was going to be an exciting event. The contender field was filled with magnificent horses, with three names standing out – Henrythenavigator, Raven’s Pass and Tamayuz. While everyone thought that the entire race would come down to Tamayuz and Henrythenavigator, many also kept in mind the fact that Raven’s Pass has previously lost out three times to Henrythenavigator and would be looking to find a victory over his season rival.

Orange County Takes Number Six for Oliver

A large contender field of eighteen horses entered into the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes that took place at Caulfield on Saturday, 20 September 2008. In post position fourteen stood a beautiful grey horse that had been plagued by misfortune throughout his career, but was waiting patiently for the starting gates to swing open to prove to the world that he had what it takes to be a champion. As Orange County started out the gates, a nervous and excited trainer, Brian Mayfield-Smith, watched anxiously as the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes got underway.

Regal Parade Victorious in Ayr Gold Cup

The Ayr Gold Cup Festival was held at the Ayr Racecourse from the 18th to the 20th of September 2008. The highlight of the festival was the running of the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, as it has a large purse and the race had a brilliant contender field lined up. The Ayr Gold Cup is raced over six furlongs and is one of the richest sprint events at present. The stage was set for a nail biting racing event and a jubilant victory for the trainer, jockey and owners of Regal Parade.

Shadow Play Wins Little Brown Jug

The Little Brown Jug set Delaware on fire as spectators rose to their feet during the nail biting eliminations and the final of this magnificent harness racing event. Big names in harness racing were present, including Lonestar Legend, Art Official, Badlands Nitro, Santanna Blue Chip and Giddy Up Lucky. But it was Shadow Play that exceeded all expectations, and won his elimination race and the final, walking away victorious at the sixty-third running of the Little Brown Jug.

Steroid Ban for Maryland

Delaware, Virginia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania all have one thing in common when it comes to horse racing, and that is the fact that all four of these states have banned anabolic steroids. This magnificent improvement on the regulations in regard to steroids has been welcomed by the racing community as well as by loyal fans of the racing industry. Maryland has become the most recent state to enforce the banning of steroids, and it is a decision that will be approved on an emergency basis, so as to have the regulation enforced by 2009.

King Johnny Makes it Three

Just over nine thousand loyal harness racing fans braved the somewhat cold weather on Saturday to attend Super Night at Balmoral Park Racecourse. Super Night has been held at the Balmoral Park Racecourse since 1998, and gives spectators the opportunity to see a jam packed lineup of spectacular horses and action filled racing events. But, even more exciting, a new Super Night record was set on Saturday night,by the magnificent harness racing veteran, King Johnny. It was a racing meeting that will forever be remembered in the history of Super Night and Balmoral Park Racecourse.
