Champion Stakes Claimed by New Approach
Not many horses have the opportunity to retire from racing at the top of their game. New Approach was scheduled for retirement after the Champion Stakes no matter what the outcome, but this magnificent horse ended his horse racing career with a breathtaking performance. The Emirates Airline Champion Stakes was run on Champions Day at the Newmarket Racecourse, which had a racing lineup that included the Cesarewitch Handicap, group three, group two and group one racing events. Newmarket Racecourse is known for Champions Day, as it is one of the most popular days on the horse racing calendar, with the showstopper being the Champion Stakes.

Caracciola Shines at Cesarewitch
On Saturday, 18 October 2008, during the Champions Day at Newmarket Racecourse, an eleven year old horse racing veteran proved that he still had what it takes to outclass his younger counterparts. The Cesarewitch Handicap is run over a distance of 3 621 meters and is one of the magnificent racing events hosted on Champions Day. As always, Newmarket Racecourse was filled with spectators waiting for breathtaking horse racing action, which they got in almost every race on the card. But Caracciola was the shocker for the day, as he surged towards the wire and to victory.

Gentle Romeo Dominates at Santa Anita
Gentle Romeo was born in 2004, on River Edge Farm, bred by his owners, Marty Wygod, his wife and daughter. Gentle Romeo was sired by Benchmark and Quiet Romance, of which both mare and sire also belong to the Wygod’s. He is considered to be a little bit of a late bloomer, only making his horse racing debut last year, but has improved remarkably, and showed his talent and strength last Wednesday, 8 October 2008, by winning a feature race at the Santa Anita Oak Tree meeting.

Big Brown Retires
The moment thousands of horse racing fans had been looking forward to, would have taken place next weekend at the Breeders' Cup Classic, hosted by Santa Anita Park Racecourse. Big Brown and Curlin would finally have met, and it would have been a show-down of historic proportions. To say that everyone connected to Big Brown is absolutely devastated, would be an understatement, as an injury has cut Big Brown’s racing career short, and forced him into immediate retirement.

Preparation Victory for Casino Drive
Casino Drive is viewed as one of the horses capable of putting pressure on both Big Brown and Curlin in the upcoming Breeders’ Cup Classic. The unbeaten three year old has shown magnificent talent as a racehorse and on Sunday 12 October 2008, Casino Drive once again displayed his superiority, as he comfortably cruised his way to victory in an allowance race at Santa Anita Park Racecourse, as preparation for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Racing on the new Pro-Ride surface that has been installed at the racecourse has also proven to his owner and trainer that he is happy with the surface and ready to take on his next challenge.

Disqualification Gives Cowboy Cal the Win
The Grade 3 $150,000 Bryan Station Stakes took place on Sunday, 12 October 2008, at the Keeneland Racecourse and was a horse racing event that had a wonderful lineup of contenders waiting in the starting gates. Names such as St. Joe, Nistle’s Crunch, Big Stick, Montana Mike, Cowboy Cal, Ready’s Image, Veiled Prophet, Deal Making, Mr. Maccool, Coronel Moldes and Seaspeak, made it very difficult to pick a favorite. It seemed as though Cowboy Cal was to be happy with second place, but Seaspeak was disqualified by track stewards, giving Cowboy Cal the win in the Bryan Station Stakes.

Jessamine Stakes Victory for Laragh
On Thursday, 9 October 2008, the last racing event of the Breeder’s Cup Classic Challenge Series that gains the winning horse automatic entry into this prestigious event, was run. The $150 000 JP Morgan Chase Jessamine Stakes was the eighth race on the card at Keeneland Racecourse, and with a twelve horse line-up for the race, it was set to be a spectacular horse racing event. IEAH Stables entered one of their new horses, Laragh, and she did not disappoint. In fact, Laragh upset the whole field by winning the Jessamine Stakes.
