Deep Impact Foals Shine at Japan Sale

The Japan Racing Horse Association had been very reserved on commenting on their July select sale, which started on Tuesday, 15 July 2008. Due to the very slow economy in Japan at the moment, it was feared that sales would be few and that the success of the sale was hanging in the balance. And even though the sales figures were a little down from last year, the sale was still a huge success, with the first line of Deep Impact offspring getting a lot of attention and one foal in particular hitting the mark with a record sale price.

Moonstone Shines at the Darley Irish Oaks

It seems that there is just no stopping Aidan O’Brian this year, as he steams ahead after securing his thirteenth Group 1 win for 2008, with winning seven classics in a row and the four noteworthy classics in Ireland. Every time O’Brian steps out at a horse racing event, everything appears to go his way, and he is looking good so far to win the British Trainers Championship again after winning it in 2007. And the horse that took the thirteenth victory for him was Moonstone, during the Darley Irish Oaks.

Hendra Virus Scare in Brisbane

The Hendra Virus strikes fear in the hearts of every Australian horse owner and trainer, as it is a deadly virus that not only targets horses but can also be a danger to humans. As the outbreak of the Hendra Virus that has been detected at the Brisbane Bayside Veterinary Practice and Redlands Veterinary Clinic brings back nightmarish thoughts of the first outbreak in 1994, staff members wait anxiously on the blood test results, with authorities trying to reassure the horse racing industry that the virus has been contained.

Ellis Park is Open for Business

The Ellis Park Racecourse has been a part of horse racing history in Kentucky since as far back as 1922. Although wagering and features such as starting gates and paddocks, have changed over the years, Ellis Park Racecourse has always been known as a racecourse that has an atmosphere of nostalgia and which overflows with charm and warmth. Not surprisingly, loyal supporters and the horse racing industry felt the sting of disappointment when live racing did not start on the 4th of July as it usually does, and Ellis Park Racecourse faced permanent closure.

Mount Nelson Triumphs

Aidan O’Brian has been in the winners’ circle at the Group 1 Coral Eclipse Stakes previously with Hawk Wing, Oratorio and Giant’s Causeway. On Saturday, 5 July 2008, he was there for a fourth time, with Mount Nelson. It certainly seems to a favorable year for the talented trainer, who has now raked in no less than twelve Group 1 victories this year. There is a lot of planning involved in choosing horses for a race, and with Mount Nelson being selected for the Coral Eclipse Stakes, the timing could not have been more perfect.
