Murawih Opens Dubai Racing Club Season
The 2008 – 2009 UAE horse racing season kicked off on Thursday, 6 November 2008. Emirates Airline again sponsored the opening event to the delight of the Dubai Racing Club. The Winter Racing Challenge forms part of the three part horse racing season at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse. The other two parts of the season are the Dubai International Racing Carnival followed by the Dubai World Cup. On Thursday, a beautiful horse by name of Murawih, took the victory in the opening race, during the running of the Emirates Hotels & Resorts Trophy.

Horse Racing Resumes In Italy
It has been a month since the racecourses in Italy filled with spectators, that horsemen scurried around the stables preparing horses and racecourse officials did their last minute checks to ensure a smooth sailing day of horse racing magnificence. The horsemen strike finally came to an end and on Sunday 9 November 2008, horse racing resumed in Italy, with breathtaking action and spectacular performances by foreign horses. In Rome, at the Capannelle Racecourse, it was business as usual as the horses for the first event started getting ready and moving towards the starting gates.

Sheikh Mohammed Wants A Derby Victory
If there is one thing that is known for certain about Sheikh Mohammed, the Ruler of Dubai, it is that he is passionate about his horses. And it is understandable that, with the magnificent horses that he has purchased lately, he wants to wake up every day, go to the stables and see them. But the Sheikh has another passion when it comes to horse racing- the Kentucky Derby. It is one of his greatest goals to be able to win a Kentucky Derby and this year he is leaving nothing to chance, by securing the best two year old horses and training them in anticipation for May 2009.

Victory for Davis
Robbie Davis retired as a jockey in 2002 with more than three thousand victories to his name. Because of his twenty-one years in the horse racing industry, he knew that the job is not without injury, and not as glamorous as most people would think. Jockeys travel a lot to attend various races and it is also a lonely job, as most families are not able to attend all the races to support them. So, when Davis’s daughter, Jackie, made the announcement that she was going to follow in her fathers’ footsteps, it is not surprising that he was concerned.
