Chester Cup celebration for Hill
One of the horse racing events in Great Britain, which is looked forward to by spectators and trainers, is the Chester Cup. On Wednesday, 6 May 2009, it was that time of the year again, and it would be a day of pride and celebration for well known trainer, Barry Hill. The seventy two year old trainer was already on a high, after winning the 1000 Guineas a few days before, with Ghanaati, and on Wednesday, Daraahem added to the joy and track record of Hill, as the Chester Cup is known to be a favorite event for him.

Yasuda Kinen Horse Race
The horse racing community in Japan has swung into high gear, as one of the most prestigious racing events looms in front of them. The Yasuda Kinen Horse Race was inaugurated in the year 1951 and is run annually at the Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu, Tokyo. This year, the best of the best will be gracing the racecourse in another Yasuda Kinen Horse Race spectacular. The 7th of June 2009, the grandstand will be filled with rowdy and excited spectators, while the starting gates are lined with international field of competitors.

Kentucky Oaks surprise
Being compared to a legend such as Secretariat is a huge compliment. Especially if the same features and greatness is seen in another equine athlete, that made horses like Secretariat untouchable in the world of horse racing. This weekend, a magnificent filly by the name of Rachel Alexandra, left spectators breathless, and lifelong horse racing supporters wondering if they are witnessing another legend in the making. During the running of the 135th Kentucky Oaks, at Churchill Downs, Rachel Alexandra exceeded all expectations.

NZ Sydney Cup hopeful
On the 25th of April 2009, the Randwick Racecourse will once again host one of the most prestigious horse racing events on the Australian racing calendar. Run over a distance of 3 200 meters, the Sydney Cup is a grueling flat horse racing event, and it is here where horses have the chance to showcase their strength, endurance and determination. This year, New Zealand has an ace up their sleeve, which they hope will bring them another Sydney Cup victory. His name is Mr Tipsy, and ever since his stable mate was injured, he has been training for this moment.

Takeover Target earns well deserved ovation
The story of Takeover Target reads like a fairy tale. Foaled in the year 1999, Takeover Target was bought by a taxi driver named Joe Janiak, who managed to scrape together $AUD1250, for the unsound Takeover Target, who was also unraced at that stage. But Janiak was prepared to take a chance on him, and in return, the gelding has given his best every time he has stepped out onto the course, leading to him being referred to as the best Australian horse that has ever lived. And on Saturday, 18 April 2009, he proved that he was the best, once again.

Geelong disappointment
Australia only has three synthetic racecourses, of which Geeling ThoroughTrack is one. And when a synthetic track begins to cause problems, it affects everyone in the horse racing community. Geelong Racing Club is understandably under tremendous stress after the announcement from Victoria Racing Ltd, that the Geelong track is to be closed for repairs and maintenance. With losses estimated at approximately $15 000 per race meeting that is canceled, the Geelong Racing Club is in for a rough time.

Charles Town Classic Stakes
The city of Charles Town is located in Jefferson County, West Virginia. It is home to a flourishing horse racing community, and everyone has been waiting in anticipation for the latest addition to the Charles Town horse racing schedule, namely the inaugural running of the Charles Town Classic Stakes. With a tempting tiered purse up for grabs, and the opportunity for older horses to shine, big names in racing have entered their horses for this magnificent event, and on Saturday, the 18th of April 2009 ten worthy competitors will enter the starting gates.
