Praise for Master Minded

On Saturday, 18 January 2009, a magnificent horse with the name of Master Minded was in the starting lineup at Ascot Racecourse for the running of the Grade One Victor Chandler Chase. Trained by Paul Nicholls and owned by Clive Smith, Master Minded is stable mates to jumps racing phenomenons Kauto Star and Denman, and seems to be upholding the same presence they command when entering a racing event. Nicholls couldn’t praise Master Minded enough as they enjoyed their victory in the winner’s circle.

Ultra Blend Has the Right Combination

It is not surprising that trainer Steve Sherman did not want to make confident statements in regard to Ultra Blend being in the starting gates for the $75 000 Tiburon Stakes, which was held at the Golden Gate Fields on Saturday, 10 January 2008. She is probably one of the calmest and most laid-back fillies on the track today, and during her workout leading up to the race, she didn’t put in too much effort to work. She looked indifferent about her workout session and Sherman was not sure how she would perform during the race. But Ultra Blend proved that when she is called upon to give her best effort, she is prepared to perform beyond expectation.

Oaklawn Park Takes Precautions

Over a thousand horses have descended on the Oaklawn Park Racecourse in anticipation of the start of the new racing season, which kicks off on 16 January 2009. Many horses have been moved ahead of time to be able to enjoy training sessions and settle into their new surroundings. The transfer however was halted for a brief period, as many racecourses were dealing with the threat of the highly contagious Equine Herpes Virus, and even though none of the horses at the Oaklawn Park Racecourse tested positive, they were not taking any chances, especially with the opening of the racing season looming.

Hong Kong Sprint Disappointment

As the thirteen competitors entered the starting gate for the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint, many had backed the racing sensation from Australia, Apache Cat. After a wonderful performance in the Winterbottom Stakes, it was believed that Apache Cat would be able to conquer the field easily during this one thousand two meter event. To the disappointment of his trainer, jockey and connections, it seems that this racing event was too short for the turf champion and they had to settle for a third place finish.

For years they have been committed to enhancing the quality of their breeding programs and for over forty years they have unsuccessfully entered their horses in the Caribbean Derby, or Clasico del Caribe. This magnificent Latin American Grade 1 stakes race was inaugurated in 1966 and takes place annually at the Camarero Racecourse in Puerto Rico, and this year it took place on Saturday, 6 December 2008. It was one of the most memorable Clasico del Caribe events for the Dominican Republic, as Sicotico finished in first position, to the joy of his breeder, jockey, trainer, owners and country.
