Curlin to Retire

This year has been marked with a number of memorable horses being retired for various reasons, in all the different sectors of the horse racing industry. Names such as Benny the Bull, Big Brown, Heatseeker, Lava Man and Peppers Pride will be missed and their performances long remembered. Their retirement was surrounded by a sense of loss for many racing enthusiasts. The latest name to join the list of retired horses for this year, has many fans wishing they could turn back time to see him running a few more times, but the time has come for Curlin to hang up his racing shoes and move to the slower paced world of breeding.

Jumps Racing Season Starts At Warwick

Near the breathtaking Warwick Castle, lies a historic horse racing track that overflows with charm and beauty and has been the venue of horse racing events since the early 1740’s; Warwick Racecourse. During the year, Warwick Racecourse hosts twenty three fixtures and accommodates both flat horse racing and jumps racing, and on Wednesday, 19 November 2008, it will kick off with seven racing events to signal the start of an exciting jumps racing season. Many big names in jumps racing will be attending and it is guaranteed to be a day to remember.

European Horse Of The Year Nominees

Since the year 1991, the European Horse of the Year award, has fallen in with the hosting of the Cartier Racing Awards, and is seen as one of the most prestigious awards to be bestowed on a horse competing in Europe. In the last ten years, the European Horse of the Year award has been given to Bream Well (1998), Daylami (1999), Giant’s Causeway (2000), Fantastic Light (2001), Rock of Gibraltar (2002), Dalakhani (2003), Ouija Board (2004), Hurricane Run (2005), Ouija Board (2006) and Dylan Thomas (2007). This year, the nominations include a magnificent group of horses and have been recently released, with the awards ceremony just around the corner.

Murawih Opens Dubai Racing Club Season

The 2008 – 2009 UAE horse racing season kicked off on Thursday, 6 November 2008. Emirates Airline again sponsored the opening event to the delight of the Dubai Racing Club. The Winter Racing Challenge forms part of the three part horse racing season at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse. The other two parts of the season are the Dubai International Racing Carnival followed by the Dubai World Cup. On Thursday, a beautiful horse by name of Murawih, took the victory in the opening race, during the running of the Emirates Hotels & Resorts Trophy.
