Horse Racing Resumes In Italy

It has been a month since the racecourses in Italy filled with spectators, that horsemen scurried around the stables preparing horses and racecourse officials did their last minute checks to ensure a smooth sailing day of horse racing magnificence. The horsemen strike finally came to an end and on Sunday 9 November 2008, horse racing resumed in Italy, with breathtaking action and spectacular performances by foreign horses. In Rome, at the Capannelle Racecourse, it was business as usual as the horses for the first event started getting ready and moving towards the starting gates.

Sheikh Mohammed Wants A Derby Victory

If there is one thing that is known for certain about Sheikh Mohammed, the Ruler of Dubai, it is that he is passionate about his horses. And it is understandable that, with the magnificent horses that he has purchased lately, he wants to wake up every day, go to the stables and see them. But the Sheikh has another passion when it comes to horse racing- the Kentucky Derby. It is one of his greatest goals to be able to win a Kentucky Derby and this year he is leaving nothing to chance, by securing the best two year old horses and training them in anticipation for May 2009.

Victory for Davis

Robbie Davis retired as a jockey in 2002 with more than three thousand victories to his name. Because of his twenty-one years in the horse racing industry, he knew that the job is not without injury, and not as glamorous as most people would think. Jockeys travel a lot to attend various races and it is also a lonely job, as most families are not able to attend all the races to support them. So, when Davis’s daughter, Jackie, made the announcement that she was going to follow in her fathers’ footsteps, it is not surprising that he was concerned.

Hennessy Gold Cup Entries

The Hennessy Gold Cup will take place on Saturday, 29 November 2008, at the Newbury Racecourse and is one of the most popular Grade 3 National Hunt horse racing events on the United Kingdom racing calendar. It was inaugurated in 1957 and was run at the Cheltenham Racecourse, but was moved to the Newbury Racecourse in 1960, where it has remained. Run over a distance of 5,331 meters, with twenty one fences, the Hennessy Gold Cup is a national hunt horse racing meeting for five year old horses and over and carries a purse of £150,000.

Record Sale At Fasig-Tipton

On Sunday, the 2nd of November 2008, the Fasig-Tipton November Thoroughbred sale got underway. Everyone expected there to be a number of spectacular horses on the list of horses for sale, but no-one could have imagined that a record breaking price of $14 million would end the one-day sale off in style. In the economic slump that has affected sales figures dramatically over the past year, the sale of Better Than Honour, shone a light on the gloomy sales industry.

Artless Takes On California Sire Stakes

Artless was bred by Desomer Stables, and with Steve Desomer as driver, and Vickie Desomer as trainer, the beautiful gelding has a very promising future in harness racing. However, a week ago, Desomer Stables had a terrifying scare, as the life and harness racing future of Artless was put in jeopardy, when his transportation vehicle ended up in an accident on their way back from Canada. Fortunately, even though Artless was juggled around during the accident, he only skinned up his legs and was still able to take part in the $15,000 California Sire Stakes on Saturday, 2 November 2008.

USHWA Reward Harness Racing Community

In 1947, the United States Harness Writing Association was established, and as it is a media organization, only press members and promoters are permitted to join the association. It was founded by a group of writers that dedicated their time in keeping harness racing events in the news, but their responsibilities toward the harness racing community have expanded past reporting on racing events, as the United States Harness Writing Association are responsible for Harness Racing Hall of Fame candidate selections.
