Ascot Hosts British Champions Day

Taking place at Ascot on 15 October 2011, the QIPCO British Champions Day is promoted as "Britain’s Richest Ever Raceday" and looks set to become a highlight on the British horseracing calendar of events. Launched on Saturday 30 April at Newmarket's Rowley Mile racecourse, the QIPCO is a new British horseracing series comprising of five championship categories – Sprint, Mile, Middle Distance, Long Distance, and Fillies & Mares. Featuring seven of the top races within the individual categories, the 28-day series aims to bring together some of the world's finest racehorses, their jockeys and trainers at leading British racecourses –Ascot, Epsom Downs, Doncaster, Goodwood, Newbury, Haydock Park and Newmarket.

Keeneland Yearling Sale Ends Positively

Running from 11 to 24 September 2011, the Keeneland September Yearling Sale ended on Saturday with great gains and increases in all categories. Known as the world's largest Thoroughbred yearling auction, this year's event left consignors hopeful that the market was on the mend.

International Museum of the Horse

The International Museum of the Horse has been in existence since 1978 and is dedicated to educating the public on the vital role these graceful animals have played in the lives of humans over the centuries. Preserving the history of horses and the relationship between horses and humans is the mission of the International Museum of the Horse, which is located in Kentucky. The museum covers an area of more than thirty-eight thousand square feet and offers permanent and temporary exhibitions, ensuring that the museum remains fascinating no matter how many times it is visited.

Hall of Fame for Sky Beauty

Sky Beauty has been nominated for induction into the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame numerous times and has finally made it to be inducted. During the 1990s, Sky Beauty made a name for herself in the horse racing industry. After years of waiting, she will finally have her named carved into the history books of racing, along with numerous others before her. She is definitely most deserving of this honor, and trainer Allen Jerkens, who has been campaigning endlessly to see her inducted, said that he knew her day would eventually come.

Viva Pataca Retires

For six years Viva Pataca was the Chinese racing sensation, and his racing career proves what a magnificent horse he is. He has had forty-four starts during his career, where he placed third in ten races, came in second five times and enjoyed thirteen victories. He has accumulated over HK$83 million for his owner Stanley Ho. After placing third in the Champions and Charter Cup, a Group One race that he has won three times previously, the decision was made to retire Viva Pataca, as it is the first season that he has not been able to clinch a victory after taking the racing industry in Hong Kong by storm.

Devil May Care Loses Her Battle

Foaled in 2007, Devil May Care seemed primed for racing, with her sire being Malibu Moon, and out of Kelli’s Ransom. Her Grandsire, A.P. Indy also made her a desirable thoroughbred. She was trained by the legendary Todd Pletcher. Her debut into the horse racing industry was astonishing, and all believed that the future for Devil May Care looked bright and would lead to her becoming one of the iconic fillies of the racecourse, as she most certainly had inherited the feisty and determined spirit of her sire.
