The Hereford Racecourse in England has been hosting horse racing events for over two hundred years and the history of the facility is preserved by the racecourse in journals dating back to 1771. It began as a flat horse racing track, but by 1848, steeple chase racing started becoming a popular feature at the Hereford Racecourse. Thirteen racing events take place here annually of which National Hunt racing is the dominating sport, with ten events, one harness racing meeting and two flat racing events for Arab horses. This weekend is gearing up to be a massive weekend for horse racing, as Santa Anita opens its doors to racing on its new surface and Belmont Park readies itself for the 2007 Horse of the Year, Curlin. On Wednesday, 24 September 2008, Santa Anita Park confirmed their upcoming racing extravaganza, which they hope, if all the racing goes well over the weekend and rave reviews are given in regard to the surface, could lure the mighty Curlin to compete in the upcoming Breeder’s Cup Classic. The Little Brown Jug is an annual harness racing event that takes place in Ohio and has been a part of the racing schedule since 1937. This year, the Little Brown Jug is taking place between the 14th and 18th of September 2008. The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated in 1920. Longchamp Racecourse, located in Paris, has been hosting horse racing events since 1857 and is therefore the fitting venue for such a historical and prestigious race. It is one of the most celebrated international racing events and is run over a distance of 2 400 meters. Here, the best three year old colts and fillies battle for supremacy and victory. On Sunday, 14 September 2008, a filly claimed victory in the Qatar Prix Vermeille, catapulting her to race favorite for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Saratoga Springs is looking forward to hosting the best horse racing event this coming weekend as they get ready to close off their 2008 racing season. It has been a disappointing season for the Saratoga Racecourse, as bad weather has plagued them continuously, and they hope the weather will hold as Horse of the Year, Curlin, will take part in his first horse racing event at the Saratoga Springs Racecourse. On the 3rd of August 2008, Big Brown made his return to horse racing at the $1 million Haskell Invitational, after finishing in last position at the Belmont Stakes. He won the Haskell in a nail-biting fight for victory. Knowing that Michael Iavarone, one of Big Brown’s connections, would be looking for the right turf race to run him in before the Breeders’ Cup, racecourses have been making offers and raising purses to lure Big Brown to their tracks.
