Weekend Hussler Sets Sights on Liston Stakes

The $200 000 JJ Liston Stakes will take place on Saturday, 14 August 2008, at Caulfield Racecourse. With Weekend Hussler’s trainer, Ross McDonald, looking to take the Caulfield Cup-Cox Plate-Melbourne Cup treble, he could not afford any injury to his horse. Unfortunately for some time it almost seemed as if Weekend Hussler was out of the running, leaving trainer, handlers, jockey and owners very worried. But Weekend Hussler proved that he was a fighter, and seems to be making enough progress to be a confirmed entry into the Liston Stakes.

The Confederation Cup has a long and distinguished history that is synonymous with world class horse racing action, magnificent horses and a tradition of quality harness racing. Arlington Park Racecourse is getting ready for a stellar weekend of horse racing. There are three Grade 1 events on the racing card for Saturday, 9 August 2008, namely the $750 000 Grade 1 Beverly D (fillies and mares) for three year olds and over, the $400 000 Secretariat Stakes for three year olds, and the twenty-sixth running of the Arlington Million for three year olds and over. Pocono Downs Racetrack will host one of the most thrilling harness racing events of the year on Saturday, 9 August 2008, namely the $350 000 Devlin Miller Adios Pace. The Devlin Miller Adios Pace is a harness racing event for three year olds and will be run for the forty-second time this year. Three elimination races were held, and the top three horses in each race have gone through to the final event, which will be filled with racing action and a magnificent field of contenders. The favorite for this racing event is Shadow Play, a record breaking three-year old trained by Mark Ford and Dr. Ian Moore.

In North America, the Breeders’ Cup was first run in 1984 and is the climax of the horse racing season. The creation of this horse racing event eventually began inspiring other countries to host similar events. In Russia, the fifth leg of their Breeders’ Cup, leading to the final, which will be held on 27 September 2008, takes place on 16 August 2008, and is known as the All-Russia Derby Prize. Every year, during the month of April, the Nakayama Racecourse in Japan hosts the Grade 1 Nakayama Grand Jump steeplechase racing event, and with a purse of approximately $1.7 million, it is one of the premier international horse racing events on the steeplechase calendar. Racing Stakes Returns to Ferndale

The hundred and twelfth Humboldt County Fair will be held in Ferndale, California, between the 7th and 17th of August 2008. As usual, there will be fun and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Visitors to the fair can look forward to stunts, live music, food stalls, carnival rides, sheep dog trials, exhibits, livestock events, games and competitions. And to add to the excitement of the fair, there will be cloned mule racing and live horse racing events. Appaloosa, quarter horse, Arabian and thoroughbred horse racing will allow visitors to have a little pari-mutuel wagering fun throughout the ten days of the fair.

Saratoga Season Starts

Saratoga Racecourse has been home to horse racing for more than a hundred years. With the racing season opening on 23 July 2008, workers have been increasing their efforts to complete their renovations to the buildings and new additions in time for opening day. The New York Racing Association has invested $1 million into the renovation project, as the historic buildings were in need of care, while the upgrading and adding of food stalls, for instance, were seen as vital for coming years. In the fall, the grandstand will be the next project on the workers checklists, but for now everyone is excited and geared up for the coming six weeks of racing action.
