September: The Month of UK Racing

Horse racing enthusiasts in the United Kingdom look forward to the month of September as it is a month filled with horse racing action and stylish events to attend. Throughout September a number of racing festivals are hosted at various horse racing establishments around the country, luring thousands of spectators each year. With festivals such as the St Leger Festival, the Ayr Gold Cup Festival, the Betfred Sprint Cup Day, and many more on the calendar in this month, racing fans are spoiled for choice.

The month of horse racing excitement kicked off on 4 September 2010 at the Haydock Park Racecourse, where the Betfred Sprint Cup Day was held. The Betfred Sprint Cup was the main event for the day, but other noteworthy races, such as the Be Friendly Handicap Stakes, Kingspin Old Borough Cup and the Goals Galore Superior Cup, ensured that the day was running over with action and entertainment.

The next big event is the St. Leger Festival. Doncaster Racecourse will be the host, and it is a four day event from the 8th of September till the 11th of September 2010. Hospitality tents, ladies day activities and wonderful competitions will enhance each racing day, while the festival leads up to the highlighted event, the running of the St Leger Stakes.

The Ayr Gold Cup Festival will get underway on 16 September 2010, and ends on the 18th. For over two hundred years the Ayr Racecourse has been home to this event. With traditional horse racing and picturesque surroundings, a day at the races is definitely an adventure at Ayr.

No less than nine Group I racing events are hosted at the Queen Elizabeth II Weekend, which is one of the most prestigious events at Ascot Racecourse. Hosted from the 24th to the 26th of September, the Queen Elizabeth II Weekend offers magnificent races, such as the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, the Listed Princess Royal EBF Transformers & Rectifiers Stakes and the John Guest Diadem Stakes. Along with the racing are hospitality tents, great food and the ultimate in fashion.

Newmarket Racecourse is the place to be from the 30th of September to the 2nd of October 2010, with the Cambridge Meeting offering three Group 1 races, namely the Electrolux Cheveley Park Stakes, the Shadwell Middle Park Stakes and the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes. There is so much to enjoy and participate in this September that horse racing fans will have a difficult time deciding which events to attend.
