Tattersalls Introduces the Tattersalls Millions

Tattersalls is Europe’s largest bloodstock auctioneer. It also has the distinction of being the oldest bloodstock auctioneer in the world, having been founded by Richard Tattersall in 1766. Tattersalls have the well-earned reputation for offering the best thoroughbreds to be found worldwide. Over 200 years of service has proven their commitment to high standards of service and integrity. The branch at Fairyhouse outside Dublin in Ireland operates with the same levels of integrity and service that buyers have come to expect from Tattersalls.

Tattersalls offers more than 5,000 thoroughbreds from Park Paddocks in Newmarket, during the nine sales held annually. Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale has proven to be Europe’s premier yearling sale, with more than 700 yearlings on auction. This sale has been, and continues to be, a prime source of European Classic and Group Winners. All yearlings that are offered in Book 1 of the 2007 October Yearling Sale are eligible for the new £2,200,000 Tattersalls Millions thoroughbred racing event.

Three new Sales Races sponsored by Tattersalls, will be run at Newmarket starting in the 2008/2009 season. With a combined minimum total prize fund of £2.2 million, these three races will collectively be known as the “Tattersalls Millions”. Participants in the ‘Tattersalls Million’ race for two-year-old colts, fillies and geldings over seven furlongs will collect prize money totaling £1 million. The “Tattersalls Fillies 800” race, exclusively for two-year-old fillies, has £800,000 earmarked as the prize. The third race, “Tattersalls £ 400,000 3YO Trophy”, which is run over ten furlongs and worth £400,000, will be the first ever three-year-olds Sales Race run in Britain.

Tattersalls has been staging Sales Races at Newmarket since 1990 and the new events making up the “Tattersalls Millions” have been greeted with great enthusiasm. Prize money is considered to be the life blood of racing and with the possibility of such high winnings, the 2007 October Yearling Sale is set to be an outstanding success.

Other sales held at Newmarket include the February Sale; The Craven Breeze Up Sale which is held in April; The Guineas Breeze Up Sale in May; and the July Sale. The two week long sale in December is widely acknowledged to be the world’s most international sale of thoroughbreds offering foals, yearlings and breeding stock.
