Zenyatta, Queen of the Racecourse

Everyone in the horse racing industry has been watching the performances by Zenyatta very closely. Together with Rachel Alexandra, she has been dominating the racing scene. But with Rachel Alexandra being given the rest of the year off, all attention is now on Zenyatta and she is not disappointing anyone. This weekend, she once again proved that she is one of the best fillies to ever grace the horse racing community, by taking a comfortable victory in the Lady’s Secret Stakes that was hosted by the Santa Anita Racecourse.

Mike Smith, a Hall of Fame jockey, was given the task of piloting this magnificent horse, and with running off the pace through out the race, it did not take much effort for Zenyatta to start making her bid for victory on the final corner. In the stretch toward the finish line, Mike Smith and Zenyatta began to separate themselves from the rest of the competitors, and the rest, as they say, was history. And history was the word of the day, as Zenyatta matched the wonderful achievements enjoyed by the legendary Personal Ensign, by winning thirteen consecutive events. Personal Ensign made her mark on horse racing almost twenty years ago, while Zenyatta now too carving her name into the annals of horse racing.

Spectators made their appreciation of Zenyatta heard, as she walked into the winners’ circle, where a Queen Zenyatta banner was waiting for her. Pawing at the ground, Zenyatta stood proudly next to her co-owner Jerry Moss and trainer, John Shirreffs, while jockey Mike Smith leap off her back, to give her a big kiss of congratulations. Now, a big decision awaits the Zenyatta team, whether to run her in the $5 Million Breeders’ Cup Classic, or the Ladies Classic, and Shirreffs will undoubtedly consider the best race for the horse. John Shirreffs has been known to be very careful in his decisions, when it comes to the horses he is training. No matter which event is chosen, it is expected that Zenyatta will again deliver a breathtaking performance and her best effort. And if you ask Mike Smith, Zenyatta is able to take on any competitor, at any given moment, at any racecourse.
