The Tattersall’s Cox Plate is one of the prestigious races on the race calendar, with prize money sitting at A$3 million.

Sam Cox, founder of the beautiful Moone Valley Racecourse, was honoured when the Cox Plate was formed and run for the first time in 1922.


Today the Cox Plate makes up a series of races which falls in between some of the most anticipated races on the calendar, such as the Caulfield Cup, Victoria Derby and the Melbourne Cup. To add to its prestige, the Cox Plate is the only race from the southern hemisphere to be considered and in included in the World Series, a great privilege to say the least.


The Cox Plate is listed as a Group 1 thoroughbred horse race that covers a distance of 2040 meters on turf. The race is for 3-year-olds and over. Be sure not to miss this great racing event taking place from 24 to 26 October 2008.
