Races - Hong Kong - Sha Tin

When: 11h00, Sunday, 27 April 2008

Where: Sha Tin Racecourse, Sha Tin, Hong Kong

Description:

It was in 1975 that the prestigious ‘Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club’ first established the Queen Eliszabeth II Cup in commemoration of the royal visit made by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh at the Happy Valley Racecourse in the beautiful Happy Valley, Hong Kong.

Since 1995 the Queen Elizabeth II Cup has re-established itself as an international event, with horses competing from all over the world including Australia, France, United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

Audemars Piguet, traditionally known for their exquisite Swiss watches, have also become traditionally associated with the well known ‘Queen Elizabeth II Cup’ since becoming its sponsor in 1999.

Interestingly, since 2001, when the race took on Grade 1 status, descendants of the legendary ‘Northern Dancer’ have won each year. However, just five years later this would all change with Iridescence changing the final outcome in 2006.

To date the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup has a purse of about US $1.8 million making it an attractive race to win.
