The Florida Derby, with a purse of $1 million, has become one of the most important races to take place before the famous Kentucky Derby.

Normally run in the middle of March the Florida Derby has recently gone under a change, with it being moved up to just five weeks before the Kentucky Derby. Because of this the Florida Derby has been well looked upon as a good indicator as to some of the potential contenders to be seen later on.


The Florida Derby is a race run by thoroughbred horses of three years of age, over a distance of just over a mile long, across a dirt track at the beautiful Gulfstreem Park.
