Acorn Stakes - United States, New York

Races - United States - New York

When: 12h00, Saturday, 07 June 2008

Where: Belmont Park, New York, United States

Description:

The Acorn Stakes takes place at the beautiful Belmont Park in New York in the beginning of June 2008 and is certainly an American Grade I race you do not want to miss out on.

With a purse of just $250 000.00, the Acorn Stakes still makes for an exciting race with plenty of action for the spectators as thoroughbred fillies of three years of age compete. Belmont Park is raced over a left handed dirt track over a distance of 9 furlongs.

Some fascinating facts: In 1954 and 1956 there was a ‘dead heat’ or a ‘tie’ for first place, which has not occurred since. From 1960 to 1967 and again from 1969 to 1975 the Acorn Stakes took place at the famous Aqueduct Racetrack and was only inaugurated at the lovely Belmont Park in 1981. Interestingly, in 2003 the Alabama Stakes replaced the Acorn Stakes, which had previously been part of the ‘Triple Tiara of Thoroughbred Racing Series’.
