Hamilton Park Horse Racing Track in England
Hamilton Park Racecourse, just south of Scotland's city of Glasgow, has been a horse racing rendezvous since 1782, with the current course dating back to 1926. The Scottish racecourse became well-known as the United Kingdom's first course to present evening racing in 1947. Today Hamilton Park Racecourse is still a popular horse racing venue with a year-round calendar. Recently refurbished, Hamilton Park offers world-class facilities and exquisite service.
Opened in 1926, Hamilton Park Racecourse experienced financial difficulties during the 1950s and 60s. A trust took over ownership in 1973 and all profits went back into improving the course. Hamilton Park has a flat right-handed, loop course with an uphill straight of 5 furlongs. Renowned races at Hamilton Park include the Saints and Sinners Charity evening and the Hamilton Park Super Six. Family days feature throughout the year. Other races hosted at Hamilton Park Racecourse include MITIE Mile Night, Braveheart Night, All Revved Up, Flower of Scotland Stakes Day, Scottish Trophy, Totesport Final Fling and John Smith's Fair Friday. The race season ends off with the impressive Autumn Finale.
Hamilton Park provides for three methods of betting - bookies in the betting ring, the Tote and the betting shop. The race program, available at the entrance, gives racegoers information on all the runners, jockey colors and other information, as well as providing discount vouchers. Hamilton Park Racecourse boasts excellent facilities such as the comfortable grandstand, restaurants, bars and amenities for the disabled.
Hamilton Park has a wonderful history of champions and exciting races. Soba is a legend at Hamilton Park as one of the fastest horses to race there. On 21 May 1982 she took her second victory in a string of 14 in her career. Another famed personality is Mark Johnston, a trainer who on 4 September 2000 gained his thousandth career winner at this stunning track with Double Honour.
Hamilton Park Racecourse is located just 10 miles to the south of Glasgow off the M74. Trains can be taken from Yorkshire and London Euston to Glasgow Central through to Hamilton West. If you are a horse racing fan and find yourself in Scotland, be sure to spend a day at Hamilton Park Racecourse.
