Illinois Racetracks
Illinois boasts a wide variety of horse racing tracks where racing enthusiasts are able to enjoy various types of racing. There is also a great horse racing history to explore when visiting some of the older race tracks in Illinois.
Arlington Park Racecourse has enjoyed many years of horse racing action since its establishment in 1927. It has gained fame and popularity over the years by being a state-of-the-art facility and hosting spectacular events such as the Arlington Classic Stakes, Arlington Million and the American Derby. The well known Fairmount Derby is hosted by the Fairmount Park Race Track, which opened in 1925, and is one of the most supported race tracks in Illinois. Harness racing fans should get down to the Balmoral Park Race Track, established in 1925, where the American Nationals, Champion on Ice Trotting Series, Midwest Derby and many other related events take place during the year.
In 1933, the Illinois Racing Board was established to regulate racing and wagering, and to enforce the racing rules of Illinois. Under their supervision legal horse racing takes place throughout Illinois, promoting, developing and protecting the interests of everyone in the horse racing industry.

I'm looking for information on horse racing tracks in Kane County in the years following the Civil War. I'm told there were at least 2 one in Batavia, and one in Elburn, Can you help me with information or places to search for the information. I'm interested in a black jockey who lived in Elburn and won races between 1865 and 1894. My student have done studies of him and have written a book about his time in Elburn. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Donna
