Iowa Horse RaceTracks
Prairie Meadows Racecourse is a relative late-comer to the world of horse racing, only receiving a license in 1984 from the Iowa State Racing Commission. This racecourse has however catapulted Iowa into the racing limelight, and has become one of the leading racecourses in the industry. It was the first racecourse to be built in Iowa, and opened its doors to the public on 1 March 1989. Over and above offering first class live horse racing, the Prairie Meadows Racecourse has also expanded to a casino, where slot machines are available, along with the viewing of simulcast horse racing events. Spectators and horse racing enthusiasts will be able to look forward to events such as the Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap, Iowa Distaff, various harness racing events and quarter horse racing, all under one roof.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, founded in 1983, is concerned with the administration of rules and laws on pari-mutuel wagering at horse racing tracks, thus protecting the public and maintaining the integrity of licensed facilities.

I need information on OLD race tracks in IA. The ones that were used at one time and are probably now either corn fields or homes. From about 1830 to 1930 in the Oskalooksa and Pella areas and surrounding areas. Is there records about the tracks, the owner of the tracks, the horses that raced or used the tracks. Any help or leads will be very much appreciated.
