Minnesota Racetracks
As in the rest of the United States, there are many horse racing fans in the picturesque State of Minnesota, and its two superb racing venues are well supported. Canterbury Park, located in the city of Shakopee, offers live horse racing action on its oval one-mile dirt track on Thursdays to Sundays between May and September every year. Simulcast facilities keep the race track vibe going all year round, and an on-site card club offers an exciting addition to the action on the track. Running Aces race track, situated in Columbus, offers live harness racing as well as simulcast racing and a card room, with facilities to ensure the comfort of all its visitors.
Established in 1983, the Minnesota Racing Commission is charged with the responsibility of ensuring that both horse racing and card playing in the venues registered to carry out these activities are conducted in the public interest. The Veterinary Services Department of the Commission has a number of protocols to be adhered to in the interests of the equine athletes. These include pre-race examinations, documented Veterinarian’s Lists, monitored workouts, race day blood and urine tests, as well as controlled furosemide administration.
