Virginia Racetracks
Located on the Atlantic Coast of the Southern United States, the Commonwealth of Virginia has its fair share of attractions well worth visiting and activities to enjoy. Among those attractions is the Colonial Downs horse racing track in New Kent, Virginia. Opened in 1997, the track hosts some excellent summertime turf racing on its three tracks. From June to August, Colonial Downs hosts thrilling thoroughbred racing, while during the autumn months, spectators can enjoy the excitement of harness racing, all in the comfort of superb facilities.
In its own words, the Virginia Racing Commission has as its goal "to promote, sustain, grow and control a native horse racing industry with pari-mutuel wagering by prescribing regulations and conditions that command and promote excellence and complete honesty and integrity in racing and wagering" – and, by all accounts, commission officials are succeeding admirably in their mission.
