Julie Krone scores with Spensive in the 2002 Gold Rush at Golden Gate

Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone, who had made her comeback the previous month at Hollywood Park, came up to ride Spensive at Golden Gate FIelds for trainer Bob Baffert in the 2002 $81075 Gold Rush Stakes for 2-year-olds. Headed at the top of the stretch, Spensive re-rallied along the rail to get up by a head in the shade of the post under Krone, who had shocked the Vernon Underwood the week before with 52-1 long shot Debonair Joe. Buddy Gil, the eventual Santa Anita Derby winner, was a disappointing fifth in the Gold Rush.
