Regardless of the odds it is not wise to dismiss any horse trained by Michael Dickinson. The lesson was manifested dramatically this afternoon as Da Hoss, at 11-1 odds and in only his second start after a 22-month layoff, won the $1 million Breeders' Cup Mile for the second time in three years. With a half-furlong remaining the 6-year-old gelding appeared beaten as another long shot, Hawksley Hill, pushed his nose in front on the outside. But under the jockey John Velazquez, who had never had a Breeders' Cup mount before this year, Da Hoss rallied and prevailed by a head at the wire. The final time for the race on a turf course rated firm was 1:351/5 , three-fifths of a second faster than the clocking when Da Hoss won the Breeders' Cup Mile at Woodbine in Toronto in 1996 under Gary Stevens. This time, he returned $25.20 for a $2 win ticket. Miesque, a champion in both Europe and North America, won consecutive runnings of the Mile in 1987-88, as did Lure in 1992-93. But in many respects Da Hoss's twin triumphs are more extraordinary, because the only start he made between them was a three-quarter-length victory in allowance company at Colonial Downs in Virginia on Oct. 11. Charmayne James & Scamper - 92 NFR Rds 8, 9 & 10 [01:17]
Here is Charmayne James and Scamper making three barrel racing runs during rounds 8, 9 and 10 at the 1992 National Finals Rodeo. They won round 8 (Typical, ESPN coverage where they only show runs delayed with big watermarks to show scores of that day). Scamper carried Charmayne to her ninth world championship that year. Kiri's Clown, a 6-year-old horse who likes to come busting out of the gate to take the lead and try to hold it, came busting out today and did hold it. And by the length of his neck, against a late rush by Awad, he scored a resounding upset to win the $250000 Sword Dancer Invitational on the Saratoga turf. Not only that, but he broke Fraise's track record of 1992 by two-fifths of a second, running the mile and a half on the inner turf course in 2:252/5 . He also broke the losing streak of his trainer, Phil Johnson, who hadn't saddled a winner in New York State in 68 races going back to April. In between, though, Kiri's Clown traveled to New England in June and won the New Hampshire Sweepstakes. Kiri's Clown gave his latest performance only five days after running seventh in the Daryl's Joy Handicap. Johnson explained in the winner's circle that his horse would rather race every five days than work out every five days. "If you have a good work horse," he said, "you don't do the Daryl's Joy. But he doesn't work very well, and sometimes horses lose interest working." Johnson and his jockey, Mike Luzzi, planned on having the early lead; the only question was whether they would hold it. "We thought we would get the lead," Luzzi said, "but I didn't think we would get it the way he did. Basically, my horse was just galloping along. Παρουσιαστής της Ιπποδρομιακής εκπομπής ο Αείμνηστος Παναγιώτης Παούρης ενας απο τους πλέον συμπαθείς δημοσιογράφους και ο οποίος αγαπούσε πραγματικά τον χώρο και ποτέ του δεν εδωσε δικαίωμα για δυσμενή σχόλια εις βάρος του και ο οποίος δεν αξιζε ενα τέτοιο αδοξο τέλος !!!!! Η συνέντευξή μου είναι ήταν η πρώτη που παραχώρησα σε ΜΜΕ με αφορμή τον τραυματισμό που υπέστην απο πτώση ΑΛΛΆ και με την ιδιότητα του Προέδρου των Αναβατών .
