Corey Nakatani kept the 7-year-old Brazilian-bred tucked along the hedge throughout the one-and-three-sixteenths-mile turf race. Sandpit outran the competition to win in a very slow 1:553/5 . Sandpit, the 6-5 co-favorite with Northern Star, returned $4.40 for $2 to win. Diplomatic Jet was second and Northern Star third.
