Amber Hills set a blistering pace under Gary Baze and dug in resolutely to win the 2003 California Oaks at Golden Gate Fields. Trained by Ed Moger for owners Curt and Lila Lanning, Amber Hills would go on to win the Bay Meadows Oaks on the turf. Third-place finisher Quero Quero later won the Grade 2 Honeymoon Breeders' Cup Handicap at Hollywood Park.

Here is some footage from Bay Meadows Racecourse my father shot with the family camcorder in the mid 1980s. The opening exterior shot was filmed in the spring or summer of 1984, while the racing footage was filmed on December 26, 1985. Jockeys mentioned in this video include Hall of Famer Russell Baze (then 27-years-old), Vicki Aragon (now Vicki Baze after marrying Russell's cousin, Gary), Chad Schvaneveldt, Ken Tohill, and retired riders Roberto Gonzalez, Chris Lamance, and Tom Chapman. Miss Chanago, the filly who won the $17000 allowance feature that day and who was described by father described as a "damn nice horse," was ridden by Marco Castaneda for Bill Morey, Jr. It'd be her final career start. John Gibson was the track announcer.

Rest In Peace Michael Baze ♥ [01:13]
Hi guys, after finding out that Michael Baze died, I was very distraught, and decided to make this video in his honor. It does not do him justice, and is no where nearly as good as I wish it could be. However, I feel that Michael deserves a video dedication because of his big heart, and amazing riding skills. It was so amazing seeing him in person at Del Mar, and I truely believe that he is too young to go. My prayers go out to his family and friends. I wish that I could have raced against him on the track in the future. :( Rest in peace Michael :'(
