So You Think - The Curragh - Gold Cup (Group 1) 1¼m110y *Mick Kinane comments post race [04:54]
The first Group 1 of the year for older horses in Ireland typically attracted just a handful of runners, but we were treated to a superb performance from one of the top older horses currently in training; the pace was just fair. SO YOU THINK (NZ) produced a hugely impressive performance to gain his first Group 1 win in the Northern Hemisphere (sixth in total), without needing to improve on his previous form, taking over from his pacemaker early in the straight and powering clear for just hands and heels; stiffer tasks lie ahead, with the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot reportedly next on his agenda, but it will take something really special to lower his colours, especially at this trip, with races like the Coral Eclipse and Juddmonte International looking like obvious targets at this stage, though it has to be said he wasn't stopping at the finish here, so a step up to 1½m and a potential clash with Workforce remains a distinct possibility. CAMPANOLOGIST (USA) was well placed to win a pair of German Group 1s last year and may have to go on his travels again if he is to add to his tally, this improved effort still some way short of the standard normally required to win one of these races in Britain or Ireland, simply no match for the winner having been on that one's quarters turning for home. FAMOUS NAME came up short at this level once again, at a trip which is probably the upper limit of his stamina, unable to get past Campanologist in the final 2f; he will make ...

Galileo - Leopardstown - Maiden 1m (2yo) [00:34]
Galileo's debut, his one and only start at two. Heavy, or as John Oxx (trainer of second placed Taraza) described it on the day, "bottomless". Galileo won officially by 14 lengths.

Frankel - Newmarket (The Rowley Mile) - The Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) 7f (2yo) [04:31]
The coming together of the unbeaten Frankel, Dream Ahead and Saamidd made this one of the most eagerly awaited 2yo races for a long time, and though the battle between the 3 failed to materialize, the last 2 running well below expectations, it still took a high-class effort from Frankel to prevail, bettered only by New Approach in this race in recent times, and the form is underpinned by an excellent timefigure. FRANKEL completed the perfect season, beating everything put in front of him so far, looking every inch a champion and achieving the ratings--including timefigures--to match, even though this wasn't quite the anticipated acid test with Dream Ahead and Saamidd disappointing; all the same, it didn't go smoothly for Frankel as a bump departing the stall left him last and lit up, not settling at all, and that he still cruised through before asserting under a hand ride says it all about his exceptional talent, as well as his standing potential, unextended all along and physically the type to make an even better 3-yo; though it's a long way off, the Guineas is at his mercy, reportedly set for a spring prep run, understandable if only to get the freshness out of him, as his natural exuberance (always wears crossed noseband) is the only apparent chink in his armour so far, not that it held him back here, nor would it in the Guineas, but getting him to stretch to the Derby trip may be another matter; Timeform's highest-rated 2-yo in Europe since Xaar in 1997, Frankel has ...
