1989 Preakness Stakes: Full ABC Broadcast [01:02:48]
Sunday Silence, who raised more questions than he answered when he beat Easy Goer by two and a half lengths in the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, proved himself a worthy Triple Crown contender today by winning the 114th and closest Preakness Stakes ever at Pimlico Race Course. The blackish colt from California raced head and head with Easy Goer for the length of the stretch before regaining the lead in the final yards to win by a long nose. The last time a Preakness was decided in a photo finish was when Affirmed held off Alydar by a neck in 1978. Now Sunday Silence is one victory away from becoming racing's first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed, and his rivalry with Easy Goer, a son of Alydar, is the tightest Triple Crown battle since then. The two colts will hook up again in the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park on June 10, where victory would bring Sunday Silence's owners a total of $5 million in purses and bonuses for the series. The winner had to survive a claim of foul from Pat Day, Easy Goer's rider, who alleged interference by Pat Valenzuela and Sunday Silence through their stretch duel. After reviewing the films for seven minutes, the stewards let the order of finish stand. Another unrelated foul claim, by the rider of Dansil, who was fourth, against Rock Point, who was third, was also disallowed. The bettors in a record Pimlico crowd of 90145, unconvinced by Sunday Silence's weaving Derby finish and the slow final time of that race, made Easy Goer the 3-to-5 ...

Belmont Park - Super Saturday 1993 [42:43]
Super Saturday Broadcast of the 1993 Woodward, Man o War, Matron and Futurity.. After flying 3000 miles to do it, Bertrando injected some California intrigue into the contest for Horse of the Year yesterday when he led all the way to win the $500000 Woodward Stakes at Belmont Park by a resounding 13 1/2 lengths over the hometown hero, Devil His Due. It was four weeks after Bertrando had won the Pacific Classic and come into his own as perhaps the most formidable speedhorse on the West Coast, and maybe in the country. And he did nothing to diminish his stature yesterday as Gary Stevens rode him to the victory that marked him as one of the leading candidates for year-end honors and championships. Devil His Due, the winner of four stakes this year, did win something of value yesterday. He won the "race within the race," the contest for first place in the American Championship Racing Series, which ended with the Woodward. With points accumulated from his earlier races, he beat out Bertrando for the top bonus of $550000, while Bertrando got second prize of $225000. Valley Crossing ran third in the Woodward and third in the series for a bonus of $125000. But during the last two months, Bertrando has soared. He crossed the country in July and ran third behind Valley Crossing and Devil His Due in the Iselin Handicap at Monmouth Park in New Jersey. Then he went home and won the Pacific Classic by three lengths over his stablemate, Missionary Ridge, and even outran the celebrated ...

Shanghai Bobby - 2012 Three Chimneys Hopeful (G2) [01:43]
With the way Todd Pletcher's 2-year-olds have been performing this summer at Saratoga Race Course, it was only fitting for his charge Shanghai Bobby to close out the meet with a rousing victory over favored Fortify and six other juveniles in Monday's Grade 2, $300000 Three Chimneys Hopeful. "We felt like this summer the 2-year-olds were training very well, and we were coming in holding a strong hand," said Pletcher, who saddled 23 juvenile winners among his meet-leading 36 victories. "When some of them start to win and their workmates come up to run, you kind of get a good feel for it. We're not surprised, but we're happy." The victory, his third in as many starts, gave Shanghai Bobby an automatic berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita Park on November 3 as part of the "Win and You're In" series. Having broken his maiden at Aqueduct Racetrack on April 19, Shanghai Bobby also earned a $100000 juvenile bonus from The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) in addition to the winner's purse of $180000. The bonus, instituted this year, is awarded to any 2-year-old maiden winner at Aqueduct or Belmont Park who goes on to win a graded stakes at a NYRA track. "The purse is $300000, you get a $100000 [NYRA] bonus, and I still have shares in [Shanghai Bobby's sire] Harlan's Holiday," said Starlight Racing's Jack Wolf. "I said to my wife, 'This is a pretty big race.' It's nice that NYRA came up with the bonus. It seems to have helped the 2-year-old program." Ridden by ...
