Be My Babe -- Two-Year-Old Trippi Filly in Training with Carla Gaines [02:12]
With leading sire Trippi being sold to stand at stud in South Africa in 2008, here's your chance to own a piece of his final crop as an American stallion. In 2007, Trippi was Florida's leading sire with progeny earnings of $4.3 million and his three-year-old daughter R Heat Lightning, a Grade I winner at two, is coming off a Gulfstream Oaks (Grade II) victory in April that gave her seven top two finishes from eight career starts and pushed her earnings over $950000. His Florida-bred two-year-old daughter Be My Babe, the first foal out of the unraced dam Truely Genuine (12 winners from 2nd and 3rd dams), is currently in training at Santa Anita with Carla Gaines, who knows what it takes to be successful with female runners. "She's doing everything well within herself. We're just letting her stretch her legs right now," said Gaines, who in over 24 years of training has surpassed $20 million in purse earnings and is approaching 3000 career wins. "She's doing great. We love her." Gaines currently campaigns the stakes-winning fillies Malibu Pier, who is Grade I placed and has earned over $400000 while winning 6-of-11 career starts including the Beverly Hills Handicap (Grade III) at Hollywood Park this past weekend and both the Santa Ana and Santa Barbara (Grade II's) at Santa Anita earlier this year, and Mildly Offensive, who recently won both races to start her career by over four lengths including the $100000 Santa Paula Stakes. In 2007-08, Gaines trained the multiple Grade I ...

Who won? A close call, & a rare & nail-biting photo finish in horse racing [04:01]
At Santa Anita, a major racetrack near Los Angeles, on Sat Feb 13, 2011, fans witnessed a truly remarkable effort and whisker - close finish in a 6 & a half furlong allowance sprint. Watch in the stretch where Smart Spending, (a BC bred) horse #2 on the rail with the black & white silks, gets trapped, and has to be reigned in (checked) to prevent catastrophe. When I saw this, I held my breath & braced for the worst. Next, however, I watched one of the most impressive performances in some time. What made this more satisfying was to see a BC bred and owned horse compete and run well against the big boys at Santa Anita. Hats off to jockey Garrett Gomez, and trainer Carla Gaines for helping to make this happen. I hope to see Smart Spending race again this year at Vancouver's Hastings Park. Obviously he's vastly improved since his run in the 2010 BC Derby
