**Triple Dead Heat** - 1990 Arlington Park Allowance Race [00:39]
The horses hit the wire together...
2003 Breeders' Cup Turf + Post Race [19:28]
Through its first 19 runnings, the Breeders' Cup Turf consistently has produced close finishes. In the first 10 years, the largest margin of victory was half a length. The most decisive winner was Daylami, the 8-5 favorite who won by two lengths four years ago at Gulfstream Park. The 20th Breeders' Cup Turf on Saturday gave tight a whole new meaning. For the first time in the history of any Breeders' Cup race, there was a dead heat for the win when defending champion High Chaparral and 14-1 shot Johar couldn't be separated at the wire. It took three pictures and some 13 minutes before the photo finish sign came down and the dead heat was confirmed. Falbrav, the 7-2 second choice, almost made it a triple dead heat. He was only a head back after having the lead approaching the wire. Watching the race live, many believed High Chaparral had won. Jockey Mick Kinane thought so, especially after former jockey Donna Barton, who was working on horseback for NBC, approached him as if he had. Richard Mulhall, racing manager for the Thoroughbred Corp., which owns Johar, agreed with Kinane. "When I first saw it, I thought we were second," he said. "I didn't think he got up. After I watched the replay over and over and over, then I thought we won it. "When it was taking so long, I was thinking, well, it has to be a dead heat. I'm happy with a dead heat. It's no disgrace to dead heat with High Chaparral. He's an awful good horse." It was the third of four victories on the day for ...
Emcee - 2012 Forego Stakes (G1) [01:38]
Emcee gave trainer Kiaran McLaughlin and owner Godolphin Racing their fourth Grade 1 win of the 2012 Saratoga Race Course meet by taking the $500000 Forego by 4 ½ lengths on Saturday. "It's an honor to train for Godolphin and to have such quality horses," said McLaughlin, who earlier in the meet teamed with Godolphin to post Grade 1 scores in the TVG Coaching Club American Oaks and Alabama with Questing and the Travers via dead heat with Alpha. "It makes my job easier, but I have a great team of people behind me, and it's been an unbelievable meet. It's hard to even believe. It will take some time to sink in." Emcee, who was seeking his first Grade 1 in three starts at the level, pressed pacesetter Pacific Ocean in second through a quarter-mile in 22.64 seconds and a half in 45.38. Jersey Town made a bold run along the inside to pass the top two in the run into the stretch before Emcee overtook that rival inside the final furlong and drove clear late. Hamazing Destiny nipped Jersey Town by a neck for second. Off as the 3-2 favorite, Emcee returned $5.10 for a $2 win wager and ran seven furlongs in 1:21.00.
New York Watch: Micromanage [01:37]
On the final Saturday of the 2011 Saratoga Race Course meet, a 2-year-old colt named Alpha joined the New York Watch after posting a debut score in a seven-furlong maiden special weight, and 51 weeks later he was in Saratoga's winner's circle after dead heating for the win in the Grade 1 Travers. This year, Micromanage, a Todd Pletcher trainee, posted a five-length debut win in a seven-furlong race on the last Saturday of the meet, and his owner, Mike Repole, hopes history will repeat. "If we can duplicate Alpha's career with this horse, I think I'd be pretty content," said Repole, who won the 2011 Travers with Stay Thirsty. In his debut, Micromanage raced in fifth under jockey Javier Castellano in the opening quarter mile, ranged up three wide to offer his bid on the turn, overtook favored Gulfport straightening for home, and steadily widened his advantage in the stretch. Apex overtook Gulfport late for second. Micromanage, one of two first-time starters in the field of eight, completed the race in 1:23.01 and paid $13.60 for a $2 win wager as the 5-1 fourth choice.
