I'll Have Another Tribute [02:54]
I made this for two reasons: 1. to honor what I believe is the best three-year-old in several years. 2. I was bored and had a ton of pictures and a good song. I'll be honest. his retirement today has me really bummed. I've been a fan of this horse since March and watching him come so far has been thrilling. he's such a talented animal and I'm so disappointed that he won't have the chance to make a run in the Belmont. I really thought he was "the horse" and that thirty four years was plenty long. but, you know, that's the game. everything can be perfect one minute and the next, something like this happens. I'm glad they put the horse's welfare first. I admit, it's such a sad day for racing because there was a promise of so much more- especially his rivalry with Bodemiester. but I suppose if you want everything to always go right, you're in the wrong profession. these things happen. yes it's sad, but it could have been worse. I'll Have Another's team prevented a possibly worse injury on live national television. kudos to them, and kudos to I'll Have Another. it was fun. /end serious time. enjoy the pictures. the song is Ain't No Rest For The Wicked by Cage The Elephant

SOTB Classic - Epsom Derby 1991 [07:08]
"Generous strides to Derby glory" One of the most popular and significant Derby winners in recent history was the Paul Cole trained Generous, ridden by Alan Munro. Watch how Generous clinched the 1991 Epsom Derby with remarkable ease. Twenty years on from Derby '91, the race would also be significant from a broadcasting perspective too. It is thought that this is the last horse race ever transmitted by ITV. ITV had a huge pedigree in sport, and they had nearly all the major racing contracts during the 70's and 80's. But they fell out of love with the sport since the demise of the network's flagship sports programme World of Sport. All ITV racing coverage had been passed on to Channel 4 by the 1990's. The Derby had to be simulcast on ITV and Channel 4 by law, as the race was (and still is) a listed sporting event that has to be shown on a channel with more than 95% coverage, and Channel 4 did not fit this criteria at the time. The 1991 Derby was given just a 15 minute slot on ITV, with the introductions by Nick Owen, and race coverage provided by Channel 4 Racing. Channel 4 would then show exclusive coverage of the Epsom Derby for 10 more years, until 2001, when the BBC won the rights back to show the race.
