So, in million-dollar landmark races less than three months apart, Lemon Drop Kid staked his claim to the leadership of the class. It was once held by Charismatic, who won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness before running third in the Belmont, which he finished with a fractured leg that forced his retirement.
