Wayne Lukas barn, Cat Thief, finished seventh with breathing problems. So, in million-dollar landmark races less than three months apart, Lemon Drop Kid staked his claim to the leadership of the class. It was once held by Charismatic, who won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness before running third in the Belmont, which he finished with a fractured leg that forced his retirement. And Lemon Drop Kid's jockey, Jose Santos, was quick to assert the claim. ''He is one of the best, if not the best 3-year-old,'' Santos said.
