Edison Manufacturing Co. Filmed June 22, 1897, at Sheepshead Bay Race Track, Coney Island, New York. From Edison films catalog: The finish and weighing out of a running race with nine starters, won by famous Clifford, Sloane up. Sheepshead Bay Race Track was an American thoroughbred horse racing facility built on the site of the Coney Island Jockey Club at Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Old railroad track diagrams for the Long Island Railroad spur that served both the club and the racetrack show the entrance to the club was located on the east side of Ocean Avenue between Avenues X and Y. The racetrack was built by a group of prominent businessmen from the New York City area who formed the Coney Island Jockey Club in 1880. Led by Leonard Jerome and the track's President, William Kissam Vanderbilt, the Club held seasonal race cards at nearby Prospect Park fairgrounds until construction of the new race course was completed in 1884. - excerpt from wikipedia Sheepshead Bay Neighborhood in southeastern Brooklyn, overlooking an ocean inlet of the same name to its south and bordered to the north by Marine Park, to the east by Shellbank Creek, to the south by Manhattan Beach, and to the west by Gravesend.
