New York Watch: Micromanage [01:37]
On the final Saturday of the 2011 Saratoga Race Course meet, a 2-year-old colt named Alpha joined the New York Watch after posting a debut score in a seven-furlong maiden special weight, and 51 weeks later he was in Saratoga's winner's circle after dead heating for the win in the Grade 1 Travers. This year, Micromanage, a Todd Pletcher trainee, posted a five-length debut win in a seven-furlong race on the last Saturday of the meet, and his owner, Mike Repole, hopes history will repeat. "If we can duplicate Alpha's career with this horse, I think I'd be pretty content," said Repole, who won the 2011 Travers with Stay Thirsty. In his debut, Micromanage raced in fifth under jockey Javier Castellano in the opening quarter mile, ranged up three wide to offer his bid on the turn, overtook favored Gulfport straightening for home, and steadily widened his advantage in the stretch. Apex overtook Gulfport late for second. Micromanage, one of two first-time starters in the field of eight, completed the race in 1:23.01 and paid $13.60 for a $2 win wager as the 5-1 fourth choice.

Dominus - 2012 Bernard Baruch (G2) [01:57]
Making his first start on turf, Dominus led every step under a measured ride from Julien Leparoux and rolled to a 1 ¼-length victory over even-money favorite Data Link in Saturday's Grade 2, $250000 Bernard Baruch Handicap at Saratoga Race Course. The 4-year-old Smart Strike ridgling, who got an eight-pound break in the weights from the favorite, went to the lead a few strides out of the gate and galloped through unpressured fractions of 24.29, 48.63 and 1:12.26 over the firm turf. Accelerating as he came out of the far turn, Dominus quickly opened up on his five rivals and was never seriously threatened by Data Link's late run. "He was the only speed in the race, he just galloped easy, broke easy, and it was pretty easy for him," said Leparoux. "It was very nice for me at the end. He's a nice horse. First time on the grass, he was relaxed." Dominus's winning time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:40.32.

Men's pentathlon David Svoboda wins the gold - Summer Olympics 2012 in London (my response) [01:36]
(my response) David Svoboda of the Czech Republic won the modern pentathlon Saturday at the London Games after matching the Olympic record in the fencing event to open the competition. Svoboda, who won the European championship two years ago, led by just one second going into the final event, a combination of running and shooting. He briefly lost the lead after his main rival, Cao Zhongrong of China, was quicker to hit the five targets. Svoboda, however, regained the lead in the running part of the event, throwing his arms in the air to celebrate long before crossing the line. He finished with 5928 points to beat silver medalist Cao by 24 points. Adam Marosi of Hungary, the 2009 world champion, won bronze with 5836 points. ''In Beijing, I was fighting for the gold medal, but it all ended in disappointment,'' said Svoboda, who started as the favorite at the 2008 Olympics but finished 28th. ''So I decided to fight for gold again.'' Cao said he was ''quite happy'' with his performance after earning China's first medal in the event. ''To show your strength on the Olympic grandstand, that's great,'' Cao said through an interpreter. World champion Aleksander Lesun went into the final event in third place, but needed 10 shots to hit his five targets in his first shooting round. He lost too much time there to keep up with Svoboda and Cao, and finished fourth. Two-time defending champion Andrei Moiseev of Russia lost his chance at another gold, falling to sixth going into the ...

"Wow! What A Filly!" - Mossflower - 1998 Hempstead Handicap [04:01]
Her name is Mossflower, she is a 4-year-old daughter of the Triple Crown champion Affirmed, and she streaked across the horizon at Belmont Park yesterday like a shooting star. Mossflower stayed undefeated by winning her sixth straight race in the sort of performance that grows with time. She outran five of the finest fillies in the land by 12 lengths and more, closed with a furious rush to break the record for the Hempstead Handicap and came within two-fifths of a second of matching the track record for a mile and one-sixteenth. And she did it all in the first stakes race she ever ran. The true measure of her success might be judged by the caliber of the fillies she outran, in this order: Glitter Woman, who has finished in the money in 15 of her 16 starts; Colonial Minstrel, who had a five-race winning streak; Ajina, last year's 3-year-old champion filly; Dixie Flag, a speed horse who had won three of her last four, and Royal Indy, winner of the Gazelle last summer at Belmont. After half a mile, Mossflower was running dead last in this all-star field, and she was still fourth after three-quarters of a mile. Then they turned into the homestretch, and Robbie Davis called for closing speed. In a flash, Mossflower blew past Dixie Flag and Glitter Woman, shot from fourth place to first, widened her lead to two lengths in the stretch and widened it to major daylight as they neared the wire. She closed her breathtaking performance 12 lengths in front of Glitter Woman, who nosed ...
