Awesome Feather - 2011 Gazelle (G1) [02:11]
Awesome Feather, last year's Champion Two-Year-Old Filly, ran her career unbeaten streak to eight with an easy victory in the 116th edition of the Grade 1, $250000 Gazelle, a race for 3-year-old fillies conducted Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack. Making her second start of 2011 in the Gazelle, Awesome Feather raced off the outside flank of pacesetter Love and Pride through splits of 24.93 and 48.97, and 1:12.41. Awesome Feather drew even with that foe at the quarter pole, then pulled away when put to a drive to prevail by 5 ¼ lengths. Draw It rallied to nip Love and Pride by a nose for second.

1999 A Phenomenon Handicap [00:43]
The 131-year-old Saratoga Race Course lived up to its reputation as ''the graveyard of favorites'' today when the 4-5 favorite, Yes It's True, ran third while the 10-1 long shot Intidab was winning the A Phenomenon Handicap. To appreciate the full measure of the upset, consider that Yes It's True had won four stakes in a row and six in his last seven starts, and was the favorite not only to win the race but to take a possibly decisive step toward nailing down the sprint championship for the year. Further, he is owned by the successful Padua Stable and trained by D. Wayne Lukas, and he was ridden for the eighth straight time by Jerry Bailey, all members of racing's elite. But with all that going, Yes It's True proved no match for the demons of Saratoga's past nor for the relentless speed shown by Intidab in Saratoga's present. Intidab is a 6-year-old horse owned by the Shadwell Stable of the Maktoum royal family of Dubai on the Persian Gulf and trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, a former assistant to Lukas and one of the six disciples who flanked him at his Hall of Fame induction on Monday. Until this year, Intidab had raced mainly in Dubai and since arriving in this country last spring, had won only once in five starts.

Persistently - 2010 Personal Ensign (G1) [02:25]
Persistently waited patiently behind a speed duel and made an inexorable rally in the stretch to upset Rachel Alexandra by a length on Sunday at Saratoga Race Course in the 63rd running of the Grade 1, $300000 Personal Ensign for fillies and mares. Reigning Horse of the Year and odds-on favorite Rachel Alexandra, making her first start at the Spa since her victory in last year's Grade 1 Woodward, was away alertly but was challenged immediately by second choice Life At Ten. With Rachel Alexandra racing along the inside and Life At Ten glued to her flank, the two favorites raced in tandem as they passed the grandstand for the first time, with Rachel Alexandra floating her rival several paths wide as they entered the first turn. As the battle continued up front, Persistently settled outside in fourth, 14 ½ lengths behind as the pacesetters dictated fractions of 47.73 for the half-mile and 1:12.02 for six furlongs. Rachel Alexandra put away Life At Ten at the quarter pole, but Persistently had already begun to whittle away at the deficit. Set down for the drive, Rachel Alexandra offered temporary resistance to Persistently's bid before the long shot collared the favorite in the final 30 yards. "She had a very good trip all the way behind the leaders," said winning jockey Alan Garcia. "At the three-eighths pole, I knew I had to move, and she did it. I knew she was doing this well." Calvin Borel, rider aboard Rachel Alexandra, offered no excuses. "I had everything my way, and ...
