1989 Oak Tree Invitational Handicap [04:27]
Under Russell Baze, who hadn't been on him since the colt won the first race of his life at Del Mar in 1988, Hawkster rolled to a huge lead early before 34866 fans and was still rolling at the finish. He won the Oak Tree by four lengths over Pay the Butler in a time of 2:22 4/5, the fastest 1 1/2 miles ever run, and a time that's considered a world record even though horses going that distance at Santa Anita have the advantage of running the start of the race downhill. Hawkster earned $300000 for his owner, Shelly Meredith of Del Mar, with Baze earning 10% of that for the biggest one-race payoff of his 16-year career. Baze, 31, won the Oak Tree with Both Ends Burning in 1984 when first place was worth $240000. Hawkster, undefeated in four grass starts after going two for 13 on dirt and finishing fifth in all of the Triple Crown races, is a leading candidate for an Eclipse Award on turf. Meredith is not leaning toward running in the $2-million Breeders' Cup Turf at Gulfstream Park, which would require a $240000 supplementary entry payment. Other choices include the Hollywood Derby and the Japan Cup, but no matter where Hawkster races, McAnally made it clear that Baze will continue to ride him. "Pat (Valenzuela) is awfully talented," McAnally said, "but he's not reliable and what happened today really left me hanging. Neither Pat or his agent (Jerry Ingordo) contacted me, and then they weren't to be found. I had to find out from the other agents. "We put Pat on this horse ...

1987 Strub Stakes [01:09]
Carl Grinstead, one of the owners of Snow Chief, thought he had won. Trainer Mel Stute, who was standing in an aisle in the box-seat area, said he had a perfect position in line with the wire and thought Snow Chief had lost. Eddie Delahoussaye was riding Ferdinand, the horse who charged to the finish line almost stride for stride with Snow Chief. Unlike Grinstead and Stute, Delahoussaye wasn't wearing glasses, and his view was much closer. But Delahoussaye couldn't be sure who had won. That's how close the 40th running of the Charles H. Strub Stakes was on Sunday at Santa Anita, with 58806 fans just as unsure of the outcome as the principals. Finally, the photo-finish camera showed that Snow Chief had beaten Ferdinand by the smallest of noses, and Charlie Whittingham, the trainer of the runner-up, shoved his hands in his pockets, looked at the ground and walked around just outside the winner's circle. "Just one more jump," Whittingham said wistfully. Whittingham has won the Strub twice, but in three of the last four years he's found himself saying the same thing. In 1985, it was Precisionist over Whittingham's Greinton, by a nose just as short as on Sunday; in 1984, Desert Wine got to the wire a neck in front of Load the Cannons, another runner from Whittingham's barn. Stute should have been the last observer to doubt that Snow Chief had won, because all week long he had convinced himself that his colt was going to dominate the $516750 race. Snow Chief, a victim of a bone ...

Anton Chigurh - 1st Haydock 29/09/2012 (Panarea Racing) [08:33]
Anton Chigurh wins his third race of the season a Class 2 Haydock handicap at Haydock. Timeform view - ANTON CHIGURH progressed again to defy an 8 lb rise, and is worth keeping on side in this mood, especially as he did well to get up here; mid-field, not clear run and forced to switch 3f out, found plenty to overhaul the front runner inside the last; sure to be of interest again, and given he sees out 1m on testing ground so well, probably worth a try at 1 1/4m at some point.

Champ Kart Onboard 12/31/12 - Providence / Feature Race [05:17]
Onboard footage of the Champ Kart Feature Race from the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Rhode Island. Tonight on New Year's Eve is the 5th Annual Coffee Cup and Race #2 of the Fatheadz Eyewear Indoor Karting Series. After locking into the Feature Race from the Heat Race, I started 15th out of the 26 karts that started. This race was a wreckfest. When the first caution came out, I nearly ran into Tim in the #15 kart. When another caution came out, I nearly ran into DJ in the #60 kart and was able to avoid him and the other karts that were involved in the accident. After the front runners were retiring from mechanical failues or crashes, I found myself in 6th place. I was having an awesome run and was trying to deliver Katie and Magic a great finish to give as a farewell gift since Puppy in my Pocket: Adventures in Pocketville was coming to an end today and was removed from the air by Boomerang. I had Katie and Magic riding aboard with me to keep me calm and try to have fun racing. The great run sadly came to an end on the final restart. With the leaders bunching up to close to one another, the people behind me were literally crushing my kart. When Nick in the #41 kart was behind me, he was pushing my bumper so hard, that my seat was being compressed. When I tried to accelerate the kart, the kart did not go. I had to stop on track, because I thought something broke in my kart. The offical gives me the thumbs up, which meant that nothing was wrong with the kart. I was able to get ...

Dettori Suspended From Horse Racing For Six Months [00:16]
The three-times British champion jockey is suspended after testing positive for a banned substance earlier this year. Frankie Dettori has been suspended from riding for six months after being found guilty of taking a banned substance. The three-times British champion jockey tested positive following a routine examination at Longchamp racecourse in France on September 16. French horseracing's governing body France Galop issued the ban following a recent hearing, and the British Horseracing Authority is likely to follow suit. The 41-year-old's solicitor Christopher Stewart-Moore said the jockey "fully accepts" the ban, which lasts until May 19. "France Galop have today announced their finding Frankie Dettori has committed a breach of their rules relating to prohibited substances," said Mr Stewart-Moore. "I have spoken to Frankie since the announcement was made and he has told me he fully accepts France Galop's decision. He also accepts that he has let down the sport he loves and all those associated with it, as well as the wider public. "But most of all, and this is his greatest regret, he has let down his wife and children." Mr Stewart-Moore said Dettori was "enormously grateful" for the support of his fans, adding: "Racing has been good to Frankie and he knows that his privileged position brings with it responsibility. "For this reason he is determined to rebuild his reputation when he returns to the saddle. Frankie could make excuses. He has, after all, regularly been ...
