Long Run Wins William Hill King George VI Chase 26.12.2012 [07:48]
Horse Racing - Long Run wins second King George VI Chase. Long Run held off a spirited challenge from Captain Chris to win the King George VI Chase for the second time in two years at Kempton. The Nicky Henderson trained horse looked set for a comfortable victory, having taken the lead a mile from the finishing post. But a late charge from Richard Johnson aboard Captain Chris saw him jump into the lead at the last hurdle only for Sam Waley-Cohen to produce as last ditch effort to over-haul his rival with two strides to go. "He was so brave," said Waley-Cohen, who also rode Long Run to victory in the delayed 2010 edition of the race and finished runner-up in 2011. "We wanted to take the sting out of everything else and I asked so much, but he was so brave. "This is his fifth year of competing at this level and he means an enormous amount to us. "That was racing at its best to my mind, that's why we do it. I can't put it into words -- it's an honour and a pleasure." Grand Crus finished third almost a mile back. "It was a brave call to go on when he did and it was the right call to make," Henderson said. "It was a battle out there today and not the best ground for any of them. He's young but has been doing everything right. "You would have to say last year was a disappointment but he's been running good races all the time."

King Kauto Retires...//A Steeplechasing Legend [02:27]
So glad they decided to retire Kauto Star. He is an absolutely fantastic horse who owes nobody anything. 16 grade ones, including a record 5 king georges, two gold cups and four betfair chases are surely achievements that won't be matched for a very long time, if ever. He was also the first horse ever to regain his gold cup crown and he and his stablemate Denman lit up jump racing for years with their great rivalry. While I will miss them both terribly, I know that the time is right for them to both stop and enjoy their retirement. Have a great life King Kauto, you will always be a legend of National Hunt Racing
