CITATION [40:48]
Citation (April 11, 1945--August 8, 1970) was the eighth American Triple Crown winner, and one of three major North American Thoroughbreds (along with Cigar and Zenyatta) to win at least 16 consecutive races in major stakes race competition. He was the first horse in history to win one million dollars. Owned and bred by Calumet Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, Citation was a bay colt by Bull Lea from the imported mare Hydroplane (GB), who was by the leading sire Hyperion. en.wikipedia.org

1996 Kentucky Derby - Full Broadcast [01:07:53]
Sore heel and all, outside post and all, Unbridled's Song set the stage for a storybook finish to the 122d Kentucky Derby today when he swept into the lead with a quarter of a mile to go. But in the next 26 seconds, he tired and faded to fifth place while Grindstone mounted a gripping duel against Cavonnier and won the Derby by a nose before 142668 roaring spectators. It was the closest finish in a Derby in 37 years and the first time in 63 years that a horse won the Derby after only five races. But it was the 17th straight time the favorite had floundered. And it was the sixth straight victory in the Triple Crown series for D. Wayne Lukas, who trained 5 of the 19 horses for three owners and won it for William T. Young of Lexington, Ky., who had tried six times to win the Derby and finally did in a photo finish. The finish was the tightest since Tomy Lee outreached Sword Dancer by the length of his nose in the 1959 Derby, and not even Lukas, the most successful trainer in racing history, could pick the winner. "It was so emotional in Mr. Young's box," he related. "We jumped up and started hugging and congratulating one another. Then it struck me, and I thought, 'Maybe we didn't even win.' " But they did, and there was irony as well as melodrama in it because their dark brown colt is also a son of Unbridled, winner of the 1990 Derby -- yes, a son of Unbridled, just like Unbridled's Song. Both horses were foaled in 1993, both ran in the Derby, but Unbridled's Song weakened ...

New York Watch - The Lumber Guy [01:37]
The Lumber Guy was more than OK on January 28 at Aqueduct Racetrack as he skipped and jumped clear to a 9 ¼-length debut victory against eight maiden New York-bred 3-year-olds. Leaving from post position 2, The Lumber Guy wasted no time getting to the front, leading by 1 ½ lengths two furlongs into the race with an opening fraction of 22.79 seconds and widening his advantage to two lengths through a half in 46.12. He was never shown the whip in the lane by jockey Jose Valdivia, Jr. as he pulled clear from Smarty Julips, who chased the winner in second from start to finish. The Lumber Guy, a gray colt by Grand Slam, received a Beyer Speed Figure of 90 for having completed six furlongs in 1:10.20. The performance was similar to the 6 ½-length maiden win Bold Deed, a half-brother to The Lumber Guy, posted in a six-furlong dash at Aqueduct last March in his second start. In three starts since earning his diploma, Bold Deed won the one-mile Packett's Landing overnight stakes for New York-breds in April, finished fifth in the Grade 2 Peter Pan, and second in the NYSS Spectacular Bid. Like Bold Deed, The Lumber Guy is a homebred trained by Michael Hushion for owner Barry Schwartz.
