Fourstardave - "The Sultan Of Saratoga" [02:16]
Fourstardave (1985--2002) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Fans called him "The Sultan of Saratoga" because he'd won at least one race at Saratoga Race Course each year from 1987 to 1994. He died of a heart attack in October 2002 at the age of 17 on the Belmont Park track yet is buried in Claire Court at Saratoga Race Course. This is a rare honor since only three horses are buried there. He died October 14, 2002 after having been shipped to Belmont Park to take part in a post parade of retired New York-breds on New York Showcase Day. Taken out onto the track in early morning to do light training he had a heart attack while trotting the track clockwise. Fourstardave retired having made 99 starts with a record of 21-18-16 and earnings of $1636560. At Saratoga, the fan favorite set a course record of 1:38 4/5 for a mile and a sixteenth. On the turf he was perhaps best, winning 15 races and almost $1 million. Upon his retirement, he was feted at neighboring Siro's Restaurant, where he was presented with an edible key to the city and had the small lane named "Fourstardave Way" in his honor. In his honor and tribute The Daryl's Joy Stakes at Saratoga was changed to the Fourstardave, now a Grade 2 stakes. In 1997 (at the age of 12) he participated in the High Hope Steeplechase at the Kentucky Horse Park in an amateur event for charity, and finished second. en.wikipedia.org

Affirmed Success - 2002 Carter (G1) [02:31]
Eight-year-old Affirmed Success took a stalker's pose and the inside track against the expected strong pace Saturday afternoon, then took control for good in the lane as he held on for a one-length victory over late-running Voodoo in the 102nd running of the Grade 1, $350000 Carter Handicap for three-year-olds and up -- the undercard feature of Wood Memorial Day at Aqueduct. Owned by Albert Fried Jr., the gelded son of 1978 Triple Crown winner Affirmed broke sharp from the far outside in post 10 under jockey Richard Migliore, then angled to the rail to stalk Rusty Spur, favored Snow Ridge and Here's Zealous through fractions of :21 4/5; :43 2/5 and 1:08 before taking the lead for good and notching the 15th win of his 36-race career in 1:21 4/5. A $2 win ticket on Affirmed Success returned $11.40. "He's never looked better in his life," said winning trainer Richard Schosberg. "He's eight and he's always loved running. We wanted to be inside of Here's Zealous today because that horse got out a little when we ran against him at Laurel (General George, February 18th). Richie (Migliore) rode a great race; he moved at just the right time. This horse is just amazing."

The Mig's "Fan of the Day" Contest at Saratoga [02:31]
The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has started a "Fan of the Day" promotion in which former jockey and current NYRA television analyst Richard Migliore will select two lucky fans for special behind-the-scenes access. Every weekday -- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday -- for the remainder of the meet, Migliore will randomly select two winners from the crowd. He will then accompany them into the paddock before a race, and then to the winner's circle to watch the race. Additionally, after the race they will take part in the winner's circle photograph ceremony and receive copies of the photo to memorialize their "Fan of the Day" experience. Migliore, who began riding in 1980 and a year later won the Eclipse Award as the nation's top apprentice, retired in 2010 after winning more than 4400 races, including 362 stakes. Twice the leading rider in New York, "The Mig" currently serves as a NYRA racing office associate in addition to his role as a broadcast analyst.
